The First World Problems Whine Thread

Thought about posting this in the Whine thread or maybe minor rant or maybe random video game crap. But none of it really fit. So screw it, new thread.

Lately, I've been interested in getting a PS5. It's for the dumbest reason, too: my impatient ass wants faster loading times on Red Dead Redemption 2. But I also have some blu-rays that come with a 4K disc that I'd love to see how they look, too, so I could have a 4K player. And I've thought about getting a PS5 in the past, since there are exclusives on it that I'm interested in, like the new Ratchet & Clank and Ghost of Tsushima. And of course, the upcoming Spider-Man 2.

Since I don't have the largest disposable income, I was thinking of selling both my Switch and Oculus Quest 2, since both have mostly collected dust for months. The Switch, especially, which got a lot of play when I first got it months ago, but hasn't even been turned on in maybe 3 months or more.

Of course, actually getting a PS5 still seems near impossible. I wish I could just walk into a store and say "Yes, hello, I'd like to buy this" but that just doesn't seem possible. And I don't have the patience to sit around and refresh Best Buy pages or keep an eye on online sales, hoping that I can add it to my cart before a scalper snatches them all up. I've seen some for sale by local sellers on Facebook Marketplace but I figure there's a good chance I'd be scammed there.

If you don't want to hunt for one and constantly refresh store pages while staying up into the early hours of the morning, you can wait list yourself on sony's website. It's a lottery system, so there's no telling just how long you'll wait there, but -eventually- they'll email you that one is ready and you can buy it then.

Just checked the site for info on this and...

"Available only in United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg"

So that's a no go.

I got so randomly lucky to get mine when and how I did in January.

I wasn't actively searching for one by then. We were grocery shopping and on the way out, after paying, we were passing by their customer service and behind the counter, there was one just sitting there. I could tell it was opened but figured it was worth asking if they were selling it. The woman working said that they were and that it was only just opened by them to ensure everything was there when it was returned. I made sure I'd still have the same return policy if anything did go wrong with it and she assured me I would. So I grabbed it and I've never once had an issue.

So that would be my advice, check the stores here that sell them but aren't like Best Buy and Wal-Mart. Shopper's was the easiest place to get Switches from when they were tough to find for a bit, might have luck there. Not sure if you have them out east but it was a Superstore I had gotten mine from. Good luck!

Funny enough, I asked a clerk at Shopper's last week while I was shopping in there. They DID have one...but it was the digital edition. So close, yet so far!

Got one! Someone was selling one on Facebook Marketplace. Which I know is always a risk, but it wasn't a new, fake profile and he has several reviews from people who purchased from him. I even got an extra controller and dual charger out of it.

I booted it up and it seems to be working just fine.

Now to make back some of what I spent by selling my PS4, Switch, and maybe my Oculus Quest 2. Still on the fence about that.

Also, holy shit, if you're a PS Plus subscriber, you get a fuck ton of extra games. Here's the list. And you can play them as long as you're subscribed to PS Plus. Or access them again if you resubscribe.

My comics to-read pile has officially gotten out of control. I mean, look at all this. Jesus.

Although I've owned the Descender books for a long while, I intend on re-reading them as a refresher for Ascender. That's a newer purchase.

I've had for a long while, though. For example, I've had the House of Secrets and House of Mystery omnibuses for well over a year. I want to read them, but they're so massive and intimidating.

Had the Daredevil Epic (Vol 3) for just as long. I want to read the collection before it, first (Vol 2). Which I have a digital copy all ready to go on my tablet, but I just haven't read THAT yet, either.

And sadly, I know there's more stuff coming early in the new year that will supersede these, like Astro City Metrobook 3, Milestone Compendium Book Two, and probably a new Usagi Yojimbo Saga book.

I'm gonna make like @Thread Necromancer and resurrect a thread because I got a first world whine.

I recently bought the Blu-rays for Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes Season 1 and 2 through Facebook Marketplace. I started watching it tonight, only to discover...the discs do not include subtitles at all.

Now personally, I like turning on subtitles for everything, even if it's in English. It helps my ADHD brain focus on the dialogue. So it's mildly annoying when it's not a feature. For a Blu-ray release like this, I'm very surprised and more than a little disappointed.
