I haven't seen this movie. I don't want to see this movie. The concept seems so fucking stupid that it's not even worth a camp factor viewing. All I have to ask is why? Why bother with an idea that's so revolting and utterly retarded? I guess it could be worse, it could have been directed by Uwe Boll.

The director, Tom Six, believes that his movie is a masterpiece - a true piece of shock cinema. He believes that the audience is truly going see this movie and walk away thinking. Are directors like this genuinely this stupid, or are they making up bullshit to promote their film?

It seems ever since Saw came out (another horrible horror series), moronic directors are trying to one-up each other on shock value alone e.g. Hostel. It's the horror equivalent of all those "Scary Movie offshoots."

What are your thoughts and opinions on some of these shock movies Hollywood is churning out for the lowest common denominator demographic?

Also, The Human Centipede has the dubious distinction of having gotten no stars from Roger Ebert.

In the same way that someone might think that taking a gun to a supermarket and shooting people up is a good idea, others might think that making such a film is a good idea.

To understand their motivation one would likely have to accept their madness as a valid point of view.

A friend of mine described the Saw movies and other similar ones perfectly:

They're torture porn. There's nothing really scary about them. Unsettling? Sure. Gory? Yes. Scary? No.

That said, I do kinda dig the Saw movies. I've watched 'em all once and that's good enough for me. They're not like the horror movies I grew up on like Jason and Freddy, but I admit there's some entertainment value to them.

Human Centipede? I heard about it. That's good enough for me.

I watched Human Centipede. It wasn't that good.

Yeah, I talked about this a few months ago. Still no want or need to see it.

Torture Porn/Gore Porn. It's all the same.

It was satisfying in a no-thought-required horror sort of way. That's about it. I have no "squeemish" button.

You have to separate the first Saw from the sequels, though. The first was a thriller made by different creators. In the rest, they moved to more of a traditional horror format and got into the nasty torture crap. It's the equivalent of The Office to me. It's made just to make you uncomfortable, which is neither scary (nor funny in the case of Office) nor interesting. To me anyway.

I've never seen Saw (heehee), but from what I've heard, Fade it correct. The first one is different from the others. It seems like the sequels were made because there was an audience crying out for more gore. If I want to watch a scary movie, I make it perfectly clear that I don't want a shocky-shocky movie or a just-plain-gross movie. I want a movie that's going to mess with me, taunt me, and possibly make me feel like I'm going crazy/being watched the next time I'm home alone at night. In fact, if anyone knows any good movies that are really scary on that kind of psychological level, let me know. Lately, all I see are "jump-out-at-you" scary movies.

A non-horror movie that freaked me out was A Beautiful Mind.

Noted. That's one I always mean to watch but then forget about.

Triangle. It was on Instant Watch a while back, not sure if it still is. I HIGHLY recommend it if you're looking for a "mind fuck" horror movie.

That movie was boring, non sensical and inxconsistent. There was no 'mind fuck' about it, it was just stupidity.

A great concept, sure. The movie sucked balls though.

Ah opinions. Nature of the beast.

I thought it was fantastic, it flowed and built up a great suspense, it made perfect sense to me and the consistancy was well pulled off when it all came together.

Eh, it was okay. I kept waiting for it to go. It was like the cars were revving up to race, but the hot chick just wouldn't drop the flag. Then it's like, okay, here's your 30 seconds of cool, right at the end.

Also, I thought it was kind of predictable.

I liked it mainly because a lot of the math was pretty sound.


Moon featuring Sam Rockwell was another good mindfuck movie.

Oh how could I forget "Pandorum".

Oh my God, Moon. Great film. My favorite movie to watch when I want to be creeped out is still Vertigo. The dream sequence and the end always give me chills.

I ended up watching it just to exercise the demons that filled my brain in reading the reviews. I knew my mind built it up to be way worse than it was and watching it mellowed it out for me. The movie is garbage but not as horrifying or disturbing as your mind makes it out to be.
The first Saw was fantastic. Loved the overall meaning behind the movie. I quit after the second one though.

I thought the first Saw was laughably bad. Like, student film-bad. The second one was much more competently made. Still not the best, but not laughably bad. The rest I remember nothing about.

Watched The Human Centipede with my brother and sister (Both gorror fans).

The first half leading up to the whole centipede is actually pretty suspenseful, and Dr Heiter is an appropriately menacing badguy. When he's training the centipede in his yard with a little whip though, it kinda veers off the rails a little bit. The actors do a pretty good job, especially the asian guy.

Then the gun fights start and it's kinda snoozish.
