Obviously you've all noticed the new chatbar at the bottom of the page. This post will tell you all about it and how to use it.
Unregistered and those not logged in can't see it. This is to limit the database usage and keep us running smoothly.
The chatbar goes across all pages, posts, threads, etc. So you don't have to stay on one page to keep chatting.
You can hide the chatbar by clicking the icon on the far right that is labeled "Hide Chat". Nobody says you have to use it, so you have the choice to get it off of your screen.
You can keep the chat open across pages by clicking Options -> "Keep Chatroom Window Open". Please note that this makes it cover some things like "Top" or "Submit". Simply click the bar and it'll minimize until you change screens, when it opens back up.
If it says, "Chat(0)" and it looks like there's nobody on, that's because either you are not following anyone or there is nobody that you follow online. But if you follow someone here at HF and they are online, you'll see that number go up. You can IM them directly, which is cool.
You can create your own chatrooms by clicking "Create". Please note that after you press enter it doesn't look like it did anything but it will in a second. If your chatroom stays empty and unused for 15 minutes it will disappear. If you want a permanent one created, let me know and I'll do it for you.
Soon I will be adding things to it like little popup games if you want. I probably won't be doing Farmville even though I could.
If you have questions, you can put them here. Does it have issues? Sure it's got a few. Like for some reason when you put in " characters it wants to put in \\ instead so it looks ugly. Working on it.
So tell me what you think of the whole thing.

It seems like, when the "Keep chatroom window open" option is used, each time I load a new page it leaves the chatroom scrolled all the way up. That's kind of annoying but not crippling, so if there's any easy fix for it, it'd be appreciated, but w/evs.

Hmm. Looking into it.
Has anyone done the Dragon Slayer game? Is it worth keeping? I haven't played it as I'm at work.

Also, there seems to be a problem somewhere in the string displaying methods, it's taking the double-backslash for escaping special characters and just displaying it, as below.
I have a ticket open on the slashes and DAMN IT on the game.

For adding games and stuff, do you only need the swf file? If so, you can download a truckload of games to add.

Not sure what exactly they need to attach it to the bar. I can always let you take a look and see what you can do. Added at: 12:54
And to you non-English speakers, how well does the Translate App actually translate?

Ahh that dragon game was disappointing. I got to the point where I can finally buy something that looks useful. Then bam, thanks for playing now GTFO
Timestamps are possible in the IM. So why not in the actual chatrooms? You can't see how old the previous messages were.
Both don't do too well when using multiple tabs (which is how I browse the forum). Not all responses appear in separate tabs requiring a refresh on one to resynch it and show all chat you may have missed in another tab.
No Gravatar support. - I think that's the case here, since I seem to be the only one using it. My (Gr)avatar doesn't appear in chat or IM lists.
Own text is grayed out. A bit too grayed out even. It's confusing.
IM chat sound is identical to Facebook. Confusing. I keep checking my Facebook tab.
Chatroom notifications (the red bubble with a number in 'm) disappears after 15 seconds or so.
I may be wrong on this one, but I think simply clicking on "Hide Chat" will not actually log you out of chat and people can still message you. (Bleep!)
Yeah, it needs timestamps. Others think so too and it's been addressed on their forums since October of 2010, although I don't see an answer or resolution from Arrowchat. I'll keep looking.
Don't know what to tell you about different threads. I can see why they don't update, though.
Gravater is why your avatar doesn't show up, huh? Well crap.
I'll look for the css to change that about the text color.
I can change the *bing* sound. I'll see what I can do. Don't want to mess up your Facebooking.
I think I can change the red box and make it stay longer.
You can disable the private messages so this won't happen. Options -> Block Private Messages from Users.

So, where is the options window the OP talks about?
#14
Dave
There's an Options window when you click on either the word "Chat" or Chatrooms.

I see those drop down menus..but they are filled with gibberish?

Dave, you must find a way for me to enter this chatboxroomthing.
A link I could click to access it perhaps?

Why am I a guest in the general chat?

On the Dragor theme, I notice it is... slimmer on the sides. Options in the menu have changed somewhat. Not a problem, just an observation.

DarkAudit
Bar is gibberish in FF, but fine in chrome. '+g[19]+' = "Chatrooms"
#22
Gusto
I'm actually seeing bullshit in Chrome but it was fine in Firefox at work today.

Hey anti-socialists. I'm in the bloody chat now that I'm home. You can too. Less excuses, more idlers in the chat.
Get to it!

Hmm, looks nice, but there's no one on.
Well, Amy is, but... uh... she scares me.

DarkAudit
Now this is... odd. Firefox with similar addons installed on the laptop and the bar looks fine. On the desktop it's crap. I'll see what happens when I reboot after I get home from work.

If you're still seeing the +g[19]+ or whatever, you just need to clear your cache.
