The Newfie Embarassment

I have a friend who plays in a rock band called 'The Embarassments.' At least, I think they're still together. Anyhow, the name is apt so I have borrowed it in part.

Cajun, I hope this fulfills my oath.

Here are the words (which I have NEVER heard sung ever, in my entire life. Just FYI)
I've added some commentary to a verse that still astounds me to this day.
'Deed I is in love with you
Up all night in the foggy dew
'Deed I is in love with you
Mussels in the corner

Ask a bayman for a smoke
He will say my pipe is broke
Ask a bayman for a chew
He will bite it off for you

(chorus)

Dirty shirts and dirty ties
Dirty rings around their eyes
Can't get up the morning boys
The sleepy Newfoundlanders

(chorus)

Here they are as white as ghosts
Baymen in their little boats
Women in their petticoats
Down in Petty Harbour

(chorus)

I took Liza to the ball
Liza couldn't dance at all
I beat her head against the wall [!!?! WTF?!]
Mussels in the corner

(chorus)

All the people in Belle Isle
Don't get up till half past nine
Wash their face in kerosene oil
Polly, you're a corker!

(chorus)

Elsie Murray, she's so fine,
Don't get up til half past nine
Won't get up to feed the swine
Dirty Elsie Murray.

'Deed I is in love with you
Up all night in the foggy dew
'Deed I is in love with you
Mussels in the corner

You did fine! If that was only after 3 months I shudder at what you'll be able to accomplish.

 YAY, the accordion! Thank you for posting! It's sounding good!

 Man, that's a great :Leyla: face. And if I told y'all what take I was on it would be about the same. I hope to hear more. :) I'll bet it's a tough instrument, with the whole push-me/pull-you deal and the buttons. Hell, man, all I have to do is press down on strings and strum.

When you're more comfortable with it, maybe we could do a Cajun duet.

Radness. Also, totally agree with CJ, your :Leyla: face = exquisite.

Good lord, my first post has an embarrassing amount of smilies... to keep with the theme of the thread.

Also... moar.

It's actually not that complicated, except for the push/pull thing. I first ran into problems with that when I started fooling around on harmonica. Yeah, on trumpet it's all blow.

For that matter, I also have my mother's old Piano Accordion, which gives the same note whether you push or pull. That would simplify things, but it's not as cool as a button accordion.

Glad to hear that it didn't offend too many sensibilities, too. And I'd definitely be up for a duet, if I manage to get better at this thing :p
