Remember when they hyped it up as the new big thing and everyone was expecting something stupid amazing? And then they unveiled the Segway and people were like, "WTF is this?"

Any time I went to a tech conference in the early 2000s the Segway people would yank me out of the crowd to demonstrate the damned thing. Since I had the right balance of hugeness and still had some athletic features. I felt embarrassed but always took it for a spin, because they were fun.

I think the over-hype was it's biggest flaw. If they'd focused on what a Segway is actually good for, they might have had a much better reputation.

Or maybe if they’d had a video game tie-in?
