The Remake Thread.

This is for songs which have been remade by other artists. You don't necessarily have to say who did the original (heck, that might be more fun to make us guess!) but I want it to be a remake you LIKE.

So, for instance, Apocalyptica's version of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters":

But probably not Dolly Parton singing "Stairway to Heaven":

Unless you like that, of course. In which case your responses will be summarily dismissed as lacking in taste.

I could fill this thread with tons of remakes, but I'll space it out a bit and let others post some of theirs first.

Another favorite. I always liked this song from NIN. The first time I heard this version I was absolutely stunned.

edit: I found one that could be embedded from Vimeo. Hope you don't mind I edited your post.

Yes! YES!! God, watching that brings tears to my eyes. I know NIN did a good job with it, but Johnny Cash just brings a poignancy to it that NIN couldn't match. And the video brings it all together.

Although I prefer Hooker's original, I like George's remake.

My apologies, in advance, for posting this. It's just further proof that I was an idiot as a kid.

My sisters and I watched The Chipmunk Adventure over and over again when we were little. We loved the songs so much. Now, looking back, it's kinda disturbing. A pair of tween-age furries, in harem garb, dancing with snakes and singing about "getting lucky".

The Nostalgia Critic needs to review this movie post-haste. The sheer amount of jaw-dropping insanity is mind-boggling.

EDIT: Wait a second... is this a cover? Someone tell me this is a cover and not something written for the movie. If it's a song written to be sung by a female chipmunk, then that's like a thousand times more disturbing than it already is.

I totally goofed in posting it here, though. Watching it as a kid I thought that all the songs were remakes but, best I can tell, most of the songs in that movie were written for it. I could have posted Woolly Bully, but that song is messed-up in a very different way. Come to think of it, since it features flappy man hooties, it would have been very fitting for the forums. Here it is:

This is for songs which have been remade by other artists. You don't necessarily have to say who did the original (heck, that might be more fun to make us guess!) but I want it to be a remake you LIKE.

So, for instance, Apocalyptica's version of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters":

Apocalyptica gets an awesome! vote from me because of their version of David Bowie's Heroes.

Its sung, in German, by Rammstein's Till Linderman (who could read a phonebook and sell it and I'd buy it)

Laibach is also awesome for their covers/versions, like their latest album, Volk, which is the reworked national anthems of 14 countries. Here's Anglia, from that album-

Also google up their cover of Life is Life, One Nation, Final Countdown and Accross the Universe.

Edit: Do' oh! Someone's already posted the Johny Cash "Hurt" cover. So here's the Meatloaf version of Celine Dion's "Coming back to me now" (which technically isnt a cover, as Jim Steinman wrote if for Meatloaf after "I'd do anything for love", but the two got into a fight and he then sold it to Celine Dion)
