The T.V. Show Intro Thread

#1

Cheesy1

Cheesy1

A thread dedicated to the art of a good introduction to a television show.

Post the intros to your favorite t.v. shows, both past and present.

I'll get things started with a few classics:

Didn't we do this already? Doesn't make it any less fun, though.
Let me try and remember the ones I posted last time.
I see someone already posted Airwolf, here's the rest I can remember.

First off, this is the THE first one that comes to my mind whenever someone talks about TV intros.

This is the second.

(I love Rod Perry's obvious stunt double rollup, btw)

A few first-class classics.

Some others had this sort of soulful 'Cheers/Love Boat' startup...Fat Albert, Sanford and Son, Welcome Back Kotter, WKRP, etc.

Followed closely by some more from the Glen A. Larson/Mike Post/Pete Carpenter era.

And more (Hunter, Knight Rider, Riptide, Taxi, etc) but I won't take up all that height posting 'em all here. Just check out the related vids links from the ones linked above.

Hey, Ames! You missed one!

Gotta watch 'em all

More if any strike me.

Edit: Ooo! Remembered more!

Bah, can't find a good version of The Lonely Man (Incredible Hulk theme). Guess you're on your own with that one.

Yeah probably, but I couldn't find a similar thread open, so I figured "Why not?"

A few more:

WHAT? Noone has posted this one yet???
Kati might have, she absolustly loved that show. I've never seen it, though.
The opening to Batman: Beyond had always nagged at me, like I was sure I had seen it somewhere before. And then I realized what it reminded me of:

I see many of my old favourites on here. Doug, Freakazoid, Earthworm Jim, Futurama, and great intros to shows I was too young to watch but still love the intro for. Like Cheers. But There are a few I am shocked and apalled are not posted in this thread yet. You should all be ashamed for not posting:

And I'll forgive the lack of M*A*S*H, because I can't find a video of that intro either.

---------- Post added at 03:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:18 PM ----------

Also, I'm not sure how well known this show was outside of Canada, but I effing loved it growing up:

Man, now I can't stop myself! Look what you've started!
If you want to skip the cold opening, the intro starts at about 1:30

Man, I wish Norm MacDonald still had a show.

Let's go a little retro, shall we?

And who (from Pittsburgh) can forget...

Who knew Barbara Feldon was a Pittsburgh girl? :D

I remember staying up late on weekends to catch this fabulous show

This was the afternoon cartoon show on the same station.

Anyone else who grew up in the SF Bay area remember these gems?

Probably the best edutainment series I've ever seen ('cept for Space and Planet Earth). Albert Barille's a frickin' genius.

...not to mention first time we saw animated nudity ^^ I swear, I had the hots for Psi (the dark-haired young woman) when I was learning that girls aren't so bad.

Bow before Mako!

It's been almost twenty years... and I still get the willies from this intro!

This first one got some complaints, I guess, but it always got me pumped for what is probably my favorite show right now

The Justified one reminds me of True Blood, which has the best opening credits on TV currently

Of course, the best opening credit sequence ever is from the best show ever

Freaks and Geeks is great because it captures all the characters so well in just a few seconds

All that retro and you missed this? Shame!

Couldn't find a cleaner version but still awesome

Wasn't the best interpretation of the comic book, but still a real enjoyable, if silly, theme

Full version, because the distributor has been surprisingly good at killing the vids of just the tv theme version, and the only other one I found was crappy

A lot of my favourites have already been mentioned (Dexter, Justified, The Wire, Cheers), with a few notable exceptions.

First of all, how has no one posted any Babylon 5? The openings for all 5 seasons deserve to be in here, but I'll stick to my two favourites, seasons 3 and 4. I can't watch either of them without getting goosebumps. (Note: If you haven't watched B5, these contain MAJOR SPOILERS)

These next two (Charlie Jade, and Touching Evil) are a little more obscure; both shows were cancelled after only a season. Still, they were both great, and had fantastic openers.

Anything by Bear McCreary is awesome (see: BSG), and the Human Target opening is no exception. Sad to see he won't be coming back for the second season (and to be honest, I probably won't either :()

While the visuals for the intro are just a pretty basic montage, no music can make me as instantly happy as the Psych theme :)

... I could keep posting these all night, so I'll just stop here. Also, why the hell can't I find the Sons of Anarchy intro on YouTube?

#27

SpecialKO

SpecialKO

Psych also had some great special themes for individual episodes

Reboneer, I am so sorry. I take full responsibility. I own many of the soundtracks for B5 but including it here totally slipped my mind. You are so correct.
I miss Touching Evil. I thought it had potential even if it did feel a lot like a Monk clone. The opening reminds me a lot of House, stylewise.
