The ultimate comic book icon is going to die.

Superman dies? Been there done that, who cares.
Batman dies? It's been done.
Captain America dies? What is this 2008?
Thor dies? Only every other year.

But this guy is not supposed to die, not ever. It's the must read issue of the summer.

But it is in a book that is dealing with his future, and not the mainstay title.

I can't wait for Cyborg Archie, Teenage Archie, Black Archie, and Violent Vigilante Archie to make an appearance.

Crisis of Infinite Archies up next?

Archie Clone Wars

That would probably end the Betty/Veronica rivalry. And Jughead's loneliness.

Didn't they already do a zombie archie?

They're basically throwing everything at the wall, jumping sharks left and right, in order to make Archie relevant again.

None of it's working.

Crisis of Infinite Archies up next?
Actually, as I read the articles, it seems they actually have two ongoing series of future parallel universes, one where he marries one girl, the other where he marries the other girl. They explore how the decision changes his life in each case. Both are considered "future" explorations, while the main story continues ever onward - in other words even once he dies the regular story will continue simply because he will never age to the point where he actually gets married and then dies.

What's not clear to me is whether they will kill him in both series, or kill him in an ambiguous enough of a storyline where it will correctly cap each of the two series with the same ending. But then I'm just gleaning limited information from various sources, I could be misunderstanding things altogether.

At any rate, Archie has always been rather bland. Whenever I'd see one, I'd pick it up and flip through and I never laughed, nor was pulled into the story in a way that made me regret having to put it back on the shelf. I want to feel nostalgic about it for some reason, but I never really read it enough to justify that.

Yes, the death is the merger of both series followed by a final issue of remembrance.

I'm sure the target audience was mainly those folks who were always about the Veronica/Archie/Betty triangle and the sitcom-style tension that generated, but the best ones for me were always the hijinks storylines. You know, the Connecticut Jughead in King Arthur's Court one, stuff like that. Those were always interesting to me, whereas the ones that stayed true to the whole, "Who should he choose?" were always ... meh.

Phew. I was afraid this was about Stan Lee.

I don't have much to add, other than this is creepy as balls

Archie looks like a serial killer and Betty and Veronica look like they are being held hostage and have to keep him happy to avoid becoming his next victim.

Stan Lee would probably make a cameo at his own funeral.

Archie... I've always wondered how this company was still in business. Then I read the excellent Sonic and Mega Man comics they've been putting out for years. It also helps that you can actually still buy Archie comics at the grocery store.

You know what I think would do well? If Archie was a webcomic. Seriously. I think it would be really well.

Man, forget Barbie and ladies' magazines... Archie comics made me think something was wrong with my body. When I started developing and didn't have pointy boobs and a 15 inch waist, I got full on panic attacks. "Now a horny, waffling redhead who's mediocre at everything he tries will never love me!"

You'll probably enjoy the webcomics drawn by Gisèle Lagacé, then...if you enjoy the often risqué content.

Everyone knows that Casper is Richie Rich.

What's funny is she's actually drawn for Archie comics, too, not just in their style.

Yep, Menage a 3 has been a great series.

Yeah, I enjoy Menage-a-3 and Eerie Cuties, but I'm kind of done with reading 5 comics to get the full story. I only follow those two.

I've enjoyed Ma3, I just wish she'd drop a project or two so it could update more often. Telling an ongoing story in 4 panels is ridiculously slow.

I'd guess the second panel is a Game of Thrones reference.

Reggie as Roose Bolton is kind of fucked up, but Mr. Weatherbee as Waldon Frey is brilliant

"That's how we came up with the story line of saving Kevin. He could have saved Betty. He could have saved Veronica. We get that, but metaphorically, by saving Kevin, a new Riverdale is born."
...um...okay. Kinda...feels like a forced place to put a tolerance message if you ask me but hey whatever boats your float Archie comics.

It's actually not. This actually a pretty natural evolution for Archie, who has always been pretty tolerant and always cared about his friends first. Besides, saving Betty or Veronica would have been the equivalent of Archie choosing one over the other an that's never going to happen.

I thought that they had two "adult" lines of Archie comics, one where he ended up with Bettie and another where he ended up with Veronica.

They did I think, but they were AU releases like pretty much all the other non status quo stuff.

I mentioned this in the other comic thread, but if you get the chance the Afterlife With Archie is a pretty good read. It's zombies, but not your standard fare.

Zombies driving a jalopy. I could read that.

The Archie death combines both the adult versions of him choosing Betty/Veronica into a single series for 2 issues to complete both series.
