The World Without Us

So, I've been reading this really great non-fiction book called The World Without Us by Alan Weisman. Really neat stuff about how the planet would be if every human on the planet just disappeared. I'm sure a lot of your have either read it, heard of it or seen a similar documentary.

Anyway, I'm wondering about a similar subject. Does anyone know if a book or documentary exists discussing what the earth would be like if humans had not shown up at all? I've seen the occasional article in National Geographic about New York being a vast forest with a river cutting through it. Just wondering if there might be a full book on the subject.

That'd be the doc I was referring to. I'm looking for something on the theory of what the earth would be like if we never existed or came to dominance.

I wanted to like that documentary but it just seemed so cheesy and overdramatic.

Yeah, I'm watching some clips on the site Jiarn provided. The narration is ridiculously overdramatic and all this destruction of monuments is portrayed as a disaster movie. It's just simple fact, not something to scare people with.

Then again, this is both sad and a little scary how much plastic garbage exists:

Thats exactly how I felt. Very disappointed. Both History and Discovery are doing more and more of this kind of crap.

Find a historical account of logging and mining from the last few thousand years and you should get a good idea.

Basically there'd be more forests around without anyone to chop them down on an industrial scale.
