RIP James Garner, aka Jim Rockford of the Rockford Files - among many, many different roles in his career (Support Your Local Sheriff, for one).

I wonder how my mother is taking this. She had a huge crush on him.

Already Tweeted this...still think the "Support your local xxxxx" roles were his best. Yes, even better than Disney's Atlantis.

My dad probably remembers him more for Maverick than for anything. I grew up watching The Rockford Files on TV. He made driving a Firebird cool before that other guy.

I heard this news and, to my shame, the only movie I could recall seeing him in was The Notebook.
RIP, you handsome feller.

You NEED to go watch some episodes of Rockford Files and at least Support Your Local Sheriff.

Yes. Go see Support Your Local Sheriff. But don't watch the trailer first, it's poorly cut and stupid, and it makes the movie look stupid when it is in reality a clever comedy.

Sally Field said:
He’s so profoundly sexy, and maybe the best kiss I ever had in my life, which was on camera, believe it or not.
He's from Norman, home of my alma mater. I've seen him at a couple of football games, and I was there when they dedicated this statue/plaza. He was there and hung out with everyone like a champ; no pretentiousness at all. I just happened to be driving by and saw the crowd and saw him. So, I don't have any pics with him sadly. I am going to queue up some of his stuff now.

He was also a big supporter of Indy Car racing, frequenting the 500 (I want to say Rahal racing, but I could be wrong).

Actually, it's just "Tank", not "The Tank". One of my faves, by the way.

Oh my god...TANK was awesome!
He was one of my favorite characters in The Great Escape.

TIL it's 'Tank'
It's 'Der Tank' in german, probably also how I learned what's a Panzer in english.
Never can go wrong with a movie where a young Zephran Cochrane gets chained to a lamp post.
