history channel is giving away a free copy of America The Story of Us to any K-12 school and colleges at the request of the principal of the school. I saw the premiere last night and it was AMAZING! the first two hours were about the American revolution and it was great and even got the fact right about the Boston massacre (right man in charge of the British forces was telling them not to fire, one of the British men were hit with a stone in the head before the shooting started, big angry mob, etc) but it was still very pro-American. if anyone is interested here are the links.

Before you say I don't know what I'm talking about, I have an MA in history and am trying for a PhD. I also taught history for two years as a TA.
I saw the first episode. It was... okay. They lose points for not even mentioning the French-Indian War, which led to those tax hikes and stringent colonial policies. Several of the events were skewed in order to present a sanitized, idealized American history. They also made it seem like Morgan's riflemen single-handedly won the Battle of Saratoga and don't mention that more than half the troops at Yorktown were French. It's not as good as series that focus on the War of Independence (ie. John Adams, the old-school Learning Channel series) but it's okay as a very general, broad US history.
My grade? C-minus. It's satisfactory but missing many key points.

I bet they didn't even mention Benedict Arnold's role at Saratoga.

I'm very interested in seeing this series. I'll probably look for it on DVD after it's all aired.
