Truth is beauty

The 55 foot tall sculpture featured at burning man this year is absolutely stunning.

May be not safe for work. The photographs captured of it are beautiful as well. I'm still left in wonder at the technical structure as well.

If you haven't seen it, take a look.

Did they not actually burn it?

It was near the burning man in the center of the playa, but no, it was not meant to be burned.

However the shot of the burning man in the background is fantastic with the pose of the woman.

That is really cool. Burning Man sounds like one of those things that has some really cool & awesome stuff but I think it would drive me nuts in about 5 minutes.

Yeah, I think I'd have to turn off that part of my brain that tries to make sense of the world. But I suppose that's largely the point.

I just have a feeling that I don't do enough drugs or orgies.

It seems like some of those folks are trying way too hard to be "weird" or whatever it is they are trying to be.
You are all individuals!

That's the vibe it gives off, but I've had a few friends go who aren't part of that crowd and while that can be found there if one is interested, it's actually very limited.

It's more like going camping with a few thousand of your weirdest and most interestingly capable friends, many of whom spent the last 6-24 months making a thing they want to show off to everyone else.

Some of them are into the carnal pleasures such a trip might include, but for most it's merely being able to enjoy living in another world where personal expression and creativity are held in the highest regard.

I'm told it's easy to identify and avoid those groups and areas of the playa which don't fit one's style and desired level of interaction.

What I'm really trying to say, @Espy, is that I'll go if you go. I double dog dare you!

So... please tell me where the orgy is. So I can avoid it... yes, yes. Avoid. :ninja:

Over 60,000 people camp in the desert for a week.

Yeah.... no. I think I'm far to introverted to ever go to anything like that. Drugs and orgies aside it looks hot and full of crazy hippies. About the only way you would get me there would be in one of these:

As an alternative, you should consider the San Francisco Maker Faire. It has a lot of the same creativity on display, but it's designed to be family friendly. And as an added bonus, it's not in the middle of a desert.

Burning Man is a bit more like an anarchist social experiment. As always, there are those subversives who attempt to use this "cover" for their own purposes, but so long as they are identifiable they can be avoided (or sought), if desired.
