You'll need it. My local University got locked down because of a game of Nerf-tag. And 4 cops I know rolled down to campus to confront the active shooter, wearing full body armor and carrying M-16's (not AR-15's.) Lord knows what the other 4 police agencies in town were doing.

Hmmm. Seems a bit overkill. One thing I'd do would be to ensure this is a charity style event and invite local representatives from police and fire to join in.
