Why lift a thumb print when you can take their thumb and their keys. I never want to have my car started by my fingerprint, I want to use something easily detachable and reatachable to my pocket.
Look at that list of most commonly stolen cars, there is a reason they are old and only not top end. The fact is some of those anti-theft measures probably cost more than the car you are protecting.

So what does the owner of the fancy anti-theft car in the OP do when he wants to have it valeted?

All of this stuff is unecessary... really the passive immobilizer within the ECU itself is all you need to keep most theives away. Fingerprint scanners are idiotic... I hate all this stupid biometrics stuff, and all the other security features can be defeated by one thing:
Thieves who REALLY want your car are going to just flatbed tow the damn thing when it's vulnerable. How are you going to stop that? Bolt your car to the floor?

Honestly? They can't even seem to get power windows to work consistently yet, I'm not trusting a computer system with everything else in my car.
Besides, what if Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith give it a virus?
