They've got a lot of games in their library that already have Mac versions. Some of PopCap's games, Telltale Games's adventure titles (Monkey Island, with more coming soon), quite a few of their indie titles. I'm not surprised that Valve wants to get in on selling those games to Mac fans. I wonder if they'll take the same route Telltale did, and allow existing customers to access the Mac versions of games they already own, or if games will have to be re-purchased.

Here's a slightly corrected version of my reply for the Kotaku Article.

So... the Sentry from TF2 is a PC? It's stable, upgradable, and effective. It just looks clunky.

The speaking Turrets from Portal can be knocked over easily, can't be upgraded, aren't very powerful, but sure do look fancy!

Oddly enough, these are accurate descriptions of both PCs and Macs... but I don't think it's the image that Apple wants portrayed!

It's official. Valve to Deliver Steam & Source on the Mac

"Steam and Valve's library of games including Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal, and the Half-Life series will be available in April."

"Steamworks for the Mac supports all of the Steamworks APIs, and we have added a new feature, called Steam Play, which allows customers who purchase the product for the Mac or Windows to play on the other platform free of charge. For example, Steam Play, in combination with the Steam Cloud, allows a gamer playing on their work PC to go home and pick up playing the same game at the same point on their home Mac. We expect most developers and publishers to take advantage of Steam Play."

"We are treating the Mac as a tier-1 platform so all of our future games will release simultaneously on Windows, Mac, and the Xbox 360. Updates for the Mac will be available simultaneously with the Windows updates. Furthermore, Mac and Windows players will be part of the same multiplayer universe, sharing servers, lobbies, and so forth."

Also, over on the Left 4 Dead blog: Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 are coming to the Mac!

Well, aside from the fact that PopCap sells the game for twice as much as Steam does, Chibi might already have PvZ in his Steam account and want her to be able to play that way.

yup :) already got it.

Wonder if they will allow you to use games you already purchased on steam then? I'd love to not have to buy the Orange Box again.

It's definite that you'll be able to play the Orange box, see the official announcement link in post #4. I'm not sure about PopCap's games, but Valve is probably pushing for it.

Unless the Mac version of steam is secretly a form of VMWare, it's not going to matter that much to me. :eek:hwell:

At least I'll be able to play Portal, TF2, and episodes of Half-life.
