A treasured rite of the holiday season turned into a scene of bloody, violent mayhem late Sunday afternoon as a vehicle plowed into the Waukesha Christmas Parade, leaving more than 20 people injured, including children, and shaking the community, authorities said.

There were some fatalities but a figure was not released as authorities sought to notify families.

Eleven adults and 12 children were ferried to local hospitals.

Waukesha Mayor Shawn Reilly called the incident a "horrible and senseless act."

Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson said that around 4:39 p.m. a red SUV drove into the Christmas Parade "and more than 20 people were injured as a result of this incident." (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)

For anyone unaware, Waukesha’s downtown is generally narrow and full of one-way streets, so even a small gathering would spill onto the streets.

There is a video out there of the said red SUV plowing into the back of several Waukesha South Blackshirt Band members. I’d strongly suggest not watching if you’re faint hearted..

As I type this, there are 23 injured persons, and at least one dead.

Reminds me of the Christmas market truck/van attacks in Germany a few years back. They're easy targets for people with that frame of mind, I suppose.
Now starts the game of "is it terrorism?".

It sounds like it was a guy trying to escape the cops. Not any kind of pre-planned attack.

Ah, not a Muslim, then. Well, that clears everything up!

Sorry, it gets hard to ignore the politics in this kind of cases for me, these days. Doesn't matter one bit for the victims and their loved ones though.

Five confirmed dead, 40 plus injured.

I used to live near Waukesha (waw-key-shaw) South High School right after Sarah and I got married.

From what I can tell, the SUV likely broke through the barrier somewhere near White Rock Avenue, screamed down the entire parade route through downtown, then shot back out toward St. Paul Avenue at the corner near the library. It took me a while, but I recognized the apartment building right away (that camera was located at the Waukesha County Historical Museum).

It took me some looking to realize how far this waste of protoplasm went. :puke:

I didn't see any of the actual crash but I did see a nice long shot from down the road that showed it was probably intentional

CW: everything I just said

The video you posted is a camera near the Waukesha County Historical Society, near the beginning of the parade route.

I drove down that section of road numerous times when I was either heading home or trying to get to the other side of Waukesha.
