This isn't a new season so much as the second half of the previous season.

Holy crap, and people say I'm picky. That's semantics. It's the "return of the show after an extended break". Gee, I hope this "return of the show after an extended break" is more than 5 episodes, unlike the last "return of the show after an extended break". There. Better?

#6

Only reason it matters is that if there was a new season coming out the last seasons dvd would be for sale, which would mean I would have to go buy it.

First one - loved it. Finding the deal clones in the clot was priceless. Because they left the parking brake on just made it even better.

It does make you wonder how it happened though... I mean, how'd they shrink down and get inside? Get HELPER to do it?

It's a super science lab. You think that's the only shrink ray lying around? There's probably a whole drawer full of 'em.

Yeah, but then who put the boys inside Dr. Venture? I couldn't see HELPER doing it.

It's Hank and Dean... they probably got there by accident, and thought they were exploring the amazon or something.

Although, I think Dr Venture probably injected them himself, with the goal of fixing something, and then just forgot about them. Where'd the boys go? Bring out the clones!

I think you're over-analyzing this show a little too much. Like Poe said odds are they were dicking around and ended up there by accident. Hell, they've died in weirder ways.

I thought this episode had some great moments, and I'm always glad to see 21 get more screen time. He's turned into one of my favorite characters recently.

No, I'm pretty certain that the episode before that proved that much better.

He slept with a 15 year old girl, got her pregnant, payed off the family to keep it quiet, and then let his son become friends WITH said illegitimate son. For some reason, this actually bothers me more than the fact he cut up an orphan to power a pleasure device.

Still better than his Dad though... HE left an entire fan club locked in a fallout shelter to die, after dousing them with a serious amount of mind effecting gas... for basically no reason. He had ample time to go down there after the kids, but choose not to.

It's quite likely that he knows or at least suspects it. He'd know the last name and lets not pretend that the number of people Rusty has successfully slept with isn't something he could count on one hand. Besides, he probably got stuck with Child Support on the kid... he'd have to send the checks to someone, somewhere and I don't think Rusty can afford an accountant.

Actually i think they where going more for pathetic... remember that he only paid them off after he got threatened with jailtime if he ever came near her again, and he left the keys there.

That episode made me feel even worse for Rusty, believe it or not. I mean, he's a terrible guy, but it's all in perspective of what his father did to him. Because she was
the president of his fan club
, it really fits in nicely with the major dump Jonas took on his head.

I could swear Hammer and McCulloch are RPG characters, because they level up each season.

I think it's because they are used to working in a structured environment. A guy showing up and taunting you before they try to kill you makes sense to them... but a guy in a blood stained bear suit with a knife is absolutely crazy and clearly falls outside of the scope of their world.

#46

Necronic

I think Rusty is one of the most interesting characters in any show I have ever seen. He clearly has some very messed up morals ("Brock, I need dead people!"), and often comes across as a coward, but on the other hand he has occasionally stepped up and done the right thing (choosing not to go with Dr Killinger) and has more backbone than people give him credit for (like in telling the other child adventurers that they are loosers , or in the multiple times he has gotten severely injured and it hasn't bothered him that much.) The injuries are telling. He's lost on eye, been pinned to a wall with crossbow bolts, I think he had an arm torn off at one point. The things that he takes with what seems to be no more than mild irritation are telling.

Most of his issues seem to root from being an only child, and an only child of a brilliant scientist but terrible father. I don't think any one of us would have grown up even remotely normal in those circumstances. Being forced to kill a man before puberty, for instance. Or the fact that Jonas was Rusty's therapist.

Looking on the history of things that were done, I think its safe to say that Jonas was definitely the more evil person. He was responsible for the deaths of a lot of people due to his degligence.

#47

AshburnerX

AshburnerX

I think the only thing that really makes Rusty better than his father is the simple fact that he's actually learned from his experiences. Jonas didn't really seem to be bothered by any of his failures (Like leaving all those kids in sub-tunnels without even going back in to clean out the bodies) and would simply move on from a failed project, including his son. But Rusty... he learned ALL too well.

- He made clones of his sons because he KNEW the kind of lives they were going to have to live because of their heritage. Sure, he eventually realized that it probably wasn't the healthiest thing to have around, but it's clear he DID care enough about them to not want to lose them. It's no surprise that one of the few sciences Rusty actually excelled in was the Genetics he would use to protect his sons.
- He hardened them to the things that ruined his childhood. To Rusty, shooting guys in the head and nearly getting killed were the tragedies that ruined his life. To his sons, they are simply a fact of life and something that, while it may bother them, is something they've accepted.
- He made DAMN SURE that they knew the rules of the Guild of Calamitous Intent, if not by letter than at least the jist of it. Considering many of the rules came about specifically BECAUSE of Rusty (like Rusty's Law) , this isn't surprising.

Rusty may be a deranged asshole, but at least he knows how to plan. Even if he doesn't know what a Rusty Venture is...

Also, Trianna is dating a Twilight Douchebag? Ugh...

Yeah, that was my opinion too. Especially the look that Triana's Mom gave Outrider as she slowly drank her booze. It makes it pretty clear that things aren't going well over in the Outrider's house and gives me hope we'll finally get a Triana centric episode that shows how she was manipulated by the Master into leaving.

Yes, Rusty is an interesting character. The kind of moral gray that mainstream tv usually shuns. Well except for anti-heroes. Rusty (and Brock) is almost an anti-villain.

#52

Doc Hammer does look exactly like Pete White, and Jackson Publick looks exactly like a full-sized Billy Quizboy. I guess they wrote themselves into the show.

They've done that more than once. Basically every duo (Hank and Dean, Billy and Pete, 21 and 24, the Lepidiatrists) were created because they found they write better when they have each other to play off of.

#54

Shawn

Shawn

Based just on that after credit scene I'm crossing my fingers that we will see a change from Dean next season. It's nice to see that Hank is actually getting somewhat a bit less socially retarded, but Dean still has a long way to go. I'm hoping that in true Venture Bros style they will do something fun with it.
My prediction: Dean starts down the road of being a villain, which will inevitably lead to him and Hank clashing.

#55

fade

fade

I thought we saw some nice growth from Dean over this season. Hank kind of got last season (though I kind of hated the reversion to ascot-hank, but I get where they were going).
