We're starting the collective, and will be introducing the new members and their comics here!

First off, we have confirmed that Look Straight Ahead by Elaine Will, a dynamite story comic, is the first in! http://www.e2w-illustration.com/lsa1-cover.html

Next up, we have Plume by Plume! http://plume.smackjeeves.com/

Now we include Donnybrook by Gangerworld among our members! http://donnybrook.thecomicseries.com/

(Mods, please sticky this.)

Welcome indeed! Our site is your site!

DLM X-13

Thanks so much for the invite! I should ask, do you wish for me to put some sort of link back to HalComics on my front page? :)

#6

Dave

Dave

Totally up to you, dude. This is a work in progress. Zap is going to find some help for our woeful front page and then it's all you, baby!

#7

DLM X-13

Cool! I'd be happy to put a link up when the front page is ready. :)

I figure putting a group together, and then building the site based on everyone's needs would be more beneficial.

Right now, I've got about five more invites floating around on Comicfury, and I'm hoping to hear back soon.

Promote away! Members can post links to any site they want here....within reason, of course. I don't need viagra. :D

I just got done reading through your archive and I must say I enjoyed what I saw so far. I especially like your art style and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Dave

Dave

Whoa! I like it a lot! Only problem I have is the paging commands under the comics. They are backwards from what most every other site is. But once I got used to it it rocked.

Besides, my front page looks like ass, so I have no reason to bitch. Nice comic!

#15

Hylian

Hylian

I second the paging commands being a little bit awkward

Okay I lied. I have another complaint.

There's not more comics! This is great!

Loooove it. The art is beautiful.

If you'd like to continue to promote, you can make a thread for it in this subforum, you can highlight individual updates in this thread, or you can do both.

Very, very nice! I can't wait for more.

Only problem I have is the paging commands under the comics. They are backwards from what most every other site is.
Click on the comic itself to go to the next one (the way every archive should be, IMO). You should only need the other navigation buttons if you want to go to the beginning, end, or the previous/next chapters. Or backwards, I suppose.

Unfortunately too few comic strips allow you to go forward simply by clicking the comic itself.

Glad this one does!

k.lynn

Yes, and the arrow keys work as well. But I see what you are saying about the arrow buttons. I will look into it. And thanks for all the kind words! You guys rock.

David

David

I seem to be weird from most people, as I like the navigation to be on the bottom, especially on long-form comics. Once I scroll the page down to read the last panel I like the navigation to the next page being right there rather than having to scroll back up.

You misunderstand. I like that they are at the bottom, too. But the buttons are backwards. To go left, you have to click the right button. To go right you click the left button.

Just finished the archive, I like it! Got a very intriguing graphic novel feel, and I want to know more of the story. The art is excellent too, it works very well for the story you're telling.

I haven't gotten all the way through it because work, but so far I'm loving the art and direction, even if I think it's so far kinda depressing! (I'm at #90 I think.)

#29

Hylian

Hylian

I just started reading through "Look Straight Ahead" I am only on #41 as of right now (darn work keeping me from reading comics all day!) and so far I have been enjoying it.

I feel I should post somewhere that my comic is on a short hiatus until the craziness of Christmas has passed by! Updates in the New Year!

Although, I'll try to put up a Christmas pin up or something. :)

#33

Zappit

Zappit

Okay, collective members! I've mentioned that I want to build this around everyone's wants/needs - so what do YOU want to get out of this? Forums for your comic? Personal blog? Link Exchange? Group projects? Events like Webcomic Idol? Toss out those ideas, and we can really start to figure out EXACTLY what we want when I pitch the front page redesign to my potential collaborators.

Also, if you guys aren't married to the name HalComics, we can most definitely come up with something else.

Halforums Comic Collective?

#35

Zappit

Zappit

I've noticed that pretty much everyone who has accepted is doing an ongoing comic - no gag a day. If that keeps up, maybe a name fitting that potential theme?

#36

Dave

Dave

Up to you, my friend. I'm at your beck AND your call.

The Thought Plickens.

#38

David

David

I know I haven't applied to join yet, but the comic I'm working on buffering is gag-a-day :(

Also, a hidden subforum exclusively for collective members could be beneficial. A place to propose group projects/exchange contact info/arrange con plans/share advice, anything that could be considered sensitive/insider information, so that it could be discussed without fear of fans or index bots finding it. Although possibly simply adding eachother to skype for all that might be more practical and safer.

#39

Dave

Dave

Send a PM to Zappit.

And I can make a private sub, but I'll need a list of names that can see it.

#40

Zappit

Zappit

Just send me some samples or post a link to your comic.

#41

Zappit

Zappit

I'm going to be creating some samples for the collective page - I'm thinking a simple Wordpress blog would be a great, simple start - some nice banner links to the comics - right now we've got a core four, so it might work out very nicely.

#42

Dave

Dave

You go, boy! Just let me know as I've already got a Wordpress front page. You'd just have to redo it with a new style/whatever.

#43

Zappit

Zappit

We might have to put our heads together on that part, Dave, since I have zero knowledge of programming - but I want to follow the K.I.S.S. rule here. I'll post some samples up tomorrow and we can talk about what's actually possible.

#44

Zappit

Zappit

Things have been very...quiet from the new recruits. I'm wondering if this thing is falling apart. I might go seek out some fresh blood, because I don't want this to fail.

#45

Dave

Dave

I think it has something to do with the front page not being done yet. A little cart before the horse, as it were?

#46

Zappit

Zappit

Possibly - but I did ask them all for banners and whatnot, (some more than once) and I've gotten no responses at all since.

#47

LittleSin

LittleSin

I'm just sittin'' on my comics until the front page is finished. :) Also, the delay gives me time to work on the stuff for my gallery show.

Oh shit! The banner! Quick! I need someone to shop me a banner!
