not so fast, at least not yet. The bill gave Puerto Ricans an option to vote and if they want to join the U.S. as a state (or other option)

This will be interesting.

It's not the first time (I'm pretty sure).

I honestly don't understand why they don't just take it this time. They've been a protectorate for so long that they basically ARE Americans, if not in name. I think the only right they don't have is to vote in US elections.

They pay fewer taxes than residents of states do. Which is an understandable reason to not be a state.

It's just kind of silly when you realize that they have a larger population than half the real states.

But 50 is such a nice number.

But 50 is such a nice number.

Not to mention all those flags we gotta replace.

There has to be some one from the flag lobby that can get a statehood bill passed.

True dat. Flag manufacturers must be pushing for PR statehood hard.

Why not just get rid of a state when you take Puerto Rico. That way it can stay an even 50. It could be like Survivor. All the other states vote someone out of the union.

I nominate Texas. They want to leave anyway.

I nominate Alaska, they're all crazy anyways. (to live anywhere where it's that cold!)

I nominate combining one of our multi-states, WV and Virginia, North/South Dakota (that right there will almost give them 10 people total), North/South Carolina.

I think Canada should just own Alaska....and Greenland too.

Sounds fair.

Oh god, Fox News is going to use that as a driving point for why this shouldn't happen. I can just see it now.

"If Puerto Rico becomes a state, how will we know who the illegals are? America will be a spanish speaking language! We'll have to get rid of our flags and Adolf Obama can pry my flag from my cold dead hands!"

This message brought to you by the Sarah Palin or maybe Glenn Beck in 2012 foundation.

Ask Denmark what they think about that one (they own Greenland).

As for Canada, I'll speak for all Canadians and say "great, we get the oil revenues!" We'll take Alaska! (Even with Sarah, it's still worth it)

Denmark seems to think they own fucking everything in the Atlantic ocean.

Don't you already get those because we buy so much oil from you? :wtf:

, er, I mean, :awesome:

(pssst, quick, get them to sign before they realize what they've done! :sneaky:)

I'm pretty sure it flip-flops year-to-year as to whom you guys import more oil from, Canada or Mexico, but either way, yes we DO get money that way. ;)
