What's a good mic/webcam setup?

My best friend is going to Yale to be a doctor (yawn, that loser), and I want to keep in contact...

It looks like the Logitech C920 is fairly good, but might be overkill and is kind of pricy. I don't want a stuttery image, and HD might be a nice touch...

As to the mic, I am totally lost. I don't know what to look for at all. I don't want to spend a fortune: I just don't want to sound like ass over it. My understanding is that mics on webcams don't always have the most... pleasant sound to listen to?

On browsing LittleKagsin's webcam thread, I am liking Adam's http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/lifecam-hd-5000/7ND-00001

Hm...

Blue actually makes a webcam (the Eyeball) which has pretty good sound. The video performance is nothing to write home about, though. If you have a lot of light it works great, otherwise...

I've heard nothing but good things about these guys:

Not sure which one's are cheapest though.
I own a yeti pro, I can confirm these guys are the bees knees for mic tech, but you will pay 50 bucks minimum for a mic. the yeti pro is 250 LOL(we use it for lets plays and recording podcasts)

any mid range webcam should do you as long as you have a decent light source near your computer.

Yep. We've been rocking the (Mac version of the) Logitech Pro 9000 for the past 2-3 years, no issues ever over USB 2.0, 720p picture, surprisingly great sound. Only problem is that the field of view is not adjustable (all wide-angle, all the time), but that's not really surprising for a webcam that you can find online for $50 or so.

Also, Blue makes some awesome mics. Their eyeball isn't known for its astounding picture quality, but the sound is fantastic.
