In this case, not a sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but instead a buddy comedy musical with Mickey Mouse called "The Stooge".

Probably better than the original idea for the Roger Rabbit sequel. Where Roger Rabbit went to look for his parents who turned out to be Bugs Bunny. This was going to be a movie, look it up.

I know. I also read about a prequel they considered at one point that would have been about Roger Rabbit, Popeye, Superman (from the Fleischer Bros. cartoons) and other propoganda cartoons characters serving in World War II.

Thats the film! And actually I take back what I said, that sounds fucking awesome. Superman and Popeye fighting nazis! Guess it was a little too high concept.

Partially that, and partially Steven Spielberg (one of the producers of Who Framed Roger Rabbit). After making Schindler's List, he became particularly sensitive about using Nazis as just a generic movie threat. As such, he backed away from the project.

Relations between Warner and Disney also got more sour, and the Richard Williams crew who were working on Who Framed Roger Rabbit got screwed by Disney when Disney didn't hold up their end of the bargain and provide distribution for Thief and the Cobbler and instead stole elements from Williams' film to make Aladdin.

And then of course Katzenberg left Disney to form Dreamworks with Spielberg, and that was not a smooth transition.

DC is teaming up heroes for Justice League
Is this just the article trying to sound fancy or are they actually doing this?

I hope Warner Brothers likes losing money, because that's the future I see for that project if it ever ascends from development hell.

There's a very easy way for me to answer this question:
Jessica Rabbit?
Yes? Then yes.
No? Then no.

One line that would sell this movie for me would be if Donald said "Doesn't matter how many movies he makes, I'm STILL the real mascot". Its funny because its kinda true.

I would love to see this happen.

As much as I kind-of have an indirect vendetta against Mickey Mouse(you can guess why) this would be an awesome buddy film. Two toon stars that haven't been seen on the big screen back again!

Disney's been wanting to do something to give some personality back into their mascot Mickey Mouse. Pairing him up with Roger Rabbit, with Mickey as the straight man against Roger's frenetic comedy, is something that I think could work.

What intrigues me most about the project is the name. "The Stooge" was also the title of an old Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin comedy, the plot of that film being about a spotlight-hungry performer (played by Martin) who is bad on his own that hires a bumbling idiot (played by Lewis) so that he can have a successful act while giving no credit to the idiot and pushin him around however he wants. I wonder it is more of a coincidence that they chose that name or if this animated film might borrow plot elements from the Lewis and Martin film.

They should also work on getting Mickey's older brother Oswald into movies and cartoons again too, not saying the Epic Mickey games aren't good(although I can never beat them accursed OGD) but it would still be cool. And if they did get him a movie, I would like him to still be voiced by Frank Welker because Frank Welker is amazing and wonderful.

This doesn't sound so bad but I will wait until it's confirmed as going into production before I get worked up about it.

Indeed. It could have potential, but this is still pretty much just like a pitch, no full development yet. We'll have to wait and see. Thus far, the Disney animated films that are in development are:

  • Frozen (loosely based on the Hans Christian Andersen story The Snow Queen)
  • King of the Elves (based on the Philip K. Dick short story)
  • Big Hero 6 (based on the Marvel comic book)

There's also supposed to be a Morte movie in the works, based on the Discworld book.

SWEET! Speaking of which, have you seen that "Color of Magic" movie from a few years back? I was wondering if it was worth seeing.

No, but the Hogfather one was pretty good and I enjoyed the Soul Music animated series, even if the animation was really cheap.

The Mort adaptation fell apart, unfortunately. Disney was looking to do just Mort, but the Discworld rights were only offered in a bulk package rather than just per book.

Mickey a la Kingdom Hearts, slashing apart enemies while lamenting his past mistakes ... in a super high-pitched voice.

There have been a few attempts to bring Mort to the big screen. At least 1 fell apart when the studio involved asked PTerry "Is there any way we can make this movie without featuring the Death character?"

By the way, Who Framed Roger Rabbit hits Blu-Ray on March 12th. Just a head's-up for folks.

...At least Disney's problem was just an issue of rights, instead of making such a stupid change.

... so they wanted to remove Death... from a story that is essentially a snarky retelling of the Grimm fairy tale "Grandfather Death"? Wow, they are idiots.

It's increasingly looking like we're going to have to wait until Pratchet dies to get a big studio Discworld movie... and that by then, it's going to suck.

Honestly, if it's an animated movie that just has the characters from Roger Rabbit, I don't really care. If they tried to make a direct sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit, then I'd be leery. I don't view it any differently than the animated shorts they had shortly after the movie came out.

If they're going to make a buddy-cop movie. I'd prefer Bonkers and Miranda.
