I know I've said it before, but my wife is extremely talented. She went to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and focuses on pottery. Now she teaches some classes at a local community center and throws her own stuff on the wheel.
If you like what you see, leave a message and I'll let her know. I'm sure she'd be ecstatic to hear thoughts and even criticisms

Those are awesome. I really love the first two bowls.

Gorgeous! That mug is just lovely.

very nice

Thanks Baer, Hylian, and Cajungal! She really appreciates the feedback. When she went to school, it was hard for me to understand just how talented she was because everything she did in school was destroyed by the kiln gods or some other mishap would occur. Imagine my surprise when she started making these!!

At first I thought "How did she make that bucket?" Then I scrolled down and saw the actual pottery, which is really pretty. The mug style is really cool, and that bowl looks perfect for some yummy soup, except I don't know if pottery is for decoration or for using, so don't tell her I said that if pottery is for looks only. Because then it sounds like a dumbass thing to say .

Oh, it's not a dumbass thing to say. Artists have to be very careful about which glazes they use. My wife uses food safe glazes for any dishware.
I'll try to get her to register so she can respond properly to the thread. She's much better at explaining her stuff than I am!

This reminds me of the craft stands at festivals. Has she sold anything?

I think it's cool that you and your wife both do art stuff.

MindDetective
Does she do matching sets of dishes, like dinner and bread plates, bowls, mugs that all match (despite each piece's own quirks). My mom likes these kinds of dishes a lot, especially if she can commission replacement pieces when one breaks. I think her last set may not be available for replacements any more.

Krisken
I know she is currently in talks with someone to do a set of matching dishes. I'll talk to her again about signing up here so she can be more specific. (honestly, I'm super stupid when it comes to her art. She'd be much better at discussing it than I would!)

I just found this thread... those are fantastic! I'm always in awe of people who can do this kind of stuff.

Got her to register, so she should be along shortly to give real answers to questions. Yay!

Question: Does she have an online shop? Alternate questions: Does she/How does she sell them?

Hello there! For those of you who don't recognize the username, I am Krisken's wife. He told me that I had to make an account, and I can see why he said it. So without further ado, here are your answers:
Escushion: There are some glazes that are not safe to eat or drink off of, but I use only food-safe glazes for my work. In addition, any somewhat questionable glazes (glazes that are technically food-safe but if not taken care of properly could collect bacteria in-between cracks between the glaze) I either do not use or only use on the outside of the ware so it's even more safe than many other foodsafe pottery you'll see.
Cajuingal: I've sold a few things, but I'm really just trying to build up inventory for a special sale I'll be participating in later this month. If I include sales I've made last year I'd say I've made about $500 off my work all together.
MindDetective: Yes I can do matching sets, but I can't promise to make something that matches if a piece breaks. The problem is that everything I'm using right now is premade -- glazes, clay, etc. -- because I cannot afford to have a studio where I can make my own clay and glazes. Because companies like Amaco change their products around rather frequently, if something breaks, the glazes I used may no longer be available.
Espy: Yes! I have a shop on Etsy, but it's not completed quite yet. I still need to plan out my shipping policies and prices before I can put work up on the internet. Otherwise, I will be selling later this month in Wisconsin at an event near where Krisken and I live. I'll be sure to let people know though when art starts going up on the shop.
Hope that helps! Feel free to keep throwing questions at me. If you'd like to see all of the pictures of my recent pottery (hubs only put a few random images up), check out my deviant art link below or check out my blog. I recently put up several posts where I showed them all off.

I really adore those heart and apple containers. We should get some candle stuff to fill those with some nice scented candles

One can be apple scented. The other...heart scent.
