Wii Fit... wow

So my wifes been bugging me for a wii fit lately and I don't know why she is at a healthy weight for her size/age and all. Well 5 days ago at wal-mart we finally saw one (they had two) and I bought it for her thinking she would like it. 5 days later she hasn't touched the damn thing but once, and that time I made her do it. It said she was at a healthy way but just barely, borderline underweight and she still thinks she's fat *sigh*

Anyway I got on there I'm 5'7 and I wieghed.... 182 pounds it said I was overweight (but not obese yet). I knew I was a little overweight but the way the Wii fit made it look it looked like I was turning into godzilla (omg ahhhh). after which I said screw it, I bought the thing if she's not going to use it I am. So with the exception of the first day (we didn't have it set up) I decided to start doing it. I told it I wanted to lose 20 pounds in six months that averaged out to 1.9 pounds every two weeks. in the past four days I lost 1.9 pounds (1 week and 3 days early)! and it's fun-ish to boot (a lot better than regular exercise). not the 20 pounds I want to lose still has me at overweight (right at the line) but it's a goal that is accomplishable for me in 6 months (and at this rate less).

I'm just raving because I'm losing weight for the first time in a long time and even though I knew it needed to be done I couldn't motivate myself to do it until now. I guess one of the reasons is the instant gratification that goes with it, when you finish a workout the amount of time that you spend in it goes into a "piggy bank" that keeps track of how much time you spent and you can also see the amount of calories that you've used during the exercise that you just finished/for the day that you're on. I'll stop being a fan boy now.

Ok, so, we thought about getting one of these... I watched my mother in law do it and it seemed boring as hell. Boring and repetitious. Is it really fun?

All exercise is boring and repetitious, at least this one has pretty pictures and a scoreboard.

Well, for instance, watching the biking one, it just seemed like doing the same level over and over would get really repetitious. Since it's a video game as well I expected more I guess. See, my real query here is, I have a workout room and a pool that I use regularly, if I buy this will I just get bored with it in a week when I've done everything 10 times and its just the same content over and over.

I'm not trying to be negative or ruin anyones fun, I'm really looking for honest opinions since it's a big chunk of change to drop.

ok Epsy.. I had a long response and I hit submit and it didn't post it *sigh*

yes it is repetitious, but it is fun and you get to try and beat your/someone else's high score (at least on the aerobics one that's the only one I do). if I never played it I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but now that I've tried it 95% I would recommend it to someone. I say 95% because some people are just lazy (you know the type) and wouldn't use it if they bought it and would complain it's not working.

I love the Wii Fit as well. I just got it 4 days ago, but my arms are already sore from doing some of those exercises! The games I can see getting hard to keep up with, but for now I'm focusing on improving my balance and strength through the training exercises.

if you have your own workout room/pool that you use regularly and have fun with stay with that. Do what works for you and don't buy the Wii Fit! if you find your workout room boring and need a change go with the Wii Fit to spice things up. I live in an apartment and don't feel like driving/paying membership to the rec center this is perfect for me and I enjoy it, so I do it. If you're wife (if you're married) or kids (if you have them) don't like using your workout room/pool get them this and they may like it more (pretty scenery/scoreboard, beat the high score).

Basically, if the workout room works for you/family then stick with that. If it doesn't work for you or someone in the family I'd say go with the Wii Fit, at the very least it will keep them in shape or at a healthy weight.

edit: the courses, the jogging in place one for example, have the option of getting longer as you play them more (I have 3 distances unlocked, short, long, and the entire island). and hula hoop has different time limits 3 mins, 6 mins, and 10 mins. the bike I have no idea never done it.

alright, thanks for the info you two... those are pretty good reviews.

@Crimson... the workout room and pool do work but adding a little variety is good. I just don't want to waste money. :)

Kristen, try doing the advanced stair step under aerobics. It's impossible to keep up with I screwed up so many times on it

Julie does it every day; it can be fun or boring, depending on what you do. I honestly think it's one of the best exercise helpers you can get. There's tons and tons of games on it, including a platforming one that I adore. You also unlock more advanced versions. The competition aspect is good, the coin system and tracking is good... Love it.

See, that I didn't know, I thought it was just the same stuff over and over. I saw it and thought, boy, they could sell DLC for this and add cool levels and stuff but from what I've heard they don't do anything like that do they? It seemed like the potential was limitless.

That would be an awesome idea letting people make custom made courses and sell them/give them away on the Wii Store

hehe, still KRISKEN. Two K's.

I'll give it a shot next. I was doing the push ups with the extended arm stretch or whatever it is called. I thought I would collapse.

See, what about a Mario course? A Sonic course? I mean, the possibilities are endless for this thing and from what I have heard they have no intentions of doing anything else with it. Sorry, Little Big Planet kind of made me think about games differently. You guys do make it sound pretty sweet. Maybe we will get one.

I like it because I am way too sedentary, and while I don't put forth all the effort needed to lose weight, it does keep me from gasping for breath after running for 30 seconds and it lets me be able to do things like ski without being super sore after 30 minutes.

heh, keep in mind I'm only 4 days into it. It might be the "new car smell" that is keeping me into it. My BMI is generally where it's supposed to be, but I could use some toning in my stomach and arms especially. I've also been doing the running courses since I hate running. So far I've found it easier to stick with than if i went outside to run. Often the time goes by really quickly, and while I know I've been exercising, it doesn't feel like I'm wasting time, which is my usual problem with exercise.

The obstacle course is kind of like a Mario thing, but I agree, it would be cool if there was DLC to make it more special.
