So I'm in the market for a new phone. I currently have Verizon and I get 50 bucks to resign a 2 year deal with them. I want a PDA type phone like the iPhone, but something that's not the iPhone. I've been looking at the Blackberry Storm, but it's not really getting rave reviews. Is WiFi on a phone really that great? Does WiFi access give you LAN signals like on a laptop? If so then why does AT&T still require you to use their 30 buck a month data plan on the iPhone? The Storm doesn't have WiFi. Anyone have an LG EnV Touch? Are they any good?

Wi Fi is seperate from G3 internet access. WiFi on the phone works just like a laptop would as far as connecting to WiFi hotspots and wireless LANs. The charge for the data plan is for G3 usage, which gives you internet access anywhere you can get a phone signal (well, pretty much), regardless of whether there's a hotspot around or not. For instance, my iPod connects to wifi, but doesn't have access to G3 so I need a hotspot or LAN to connect to to connect to the internet.

The WiFi connection can be tons faster than the G3, or way slower, it all depends on what wireless network you connect to.

WiFi is meh, at least the signals i use.

ATT claims it drains less battery power on Wifi as well, and that 30 bucks a month for the plan doesnt even allow you to download files over 10mbs off 3G, gotta be on WiFi or Itunes PC.....
