Man I wish I had 9k.. I could build the perfect system to play STO on. Heres to hoping my tax return is decent, I'd be happy with like 1k.

I'm just waiting on my W2s and then I will file immediately. I'm expecting a little over 2k, but my wife and I are behind on her student loans because of some tough financial times, so I'm expecting the state to come and take money before we have a chance to make arrangements. If they do not, we are going to get a new TV...like a 55" LED.

Sheesh, where are you guys getting 9000 from?!? Wowsers. I've never gotten anywhere close to that much. And then most of mine goes to homeowner's insurance every year.

I'd be stuffing that 9K in my 401k throughout the year instead of letting the government use it for free. I like getting 2-3K back, but any more than that makes me feel like I'm wasting investment income.

I won't be gettign any where near 9K but I did just get my W2 in and I can't wait to file it. I plan on using some of the money to go to the comicon this year. I also plan on getting rid of my 27" crt in my bedroom and getting a nice LCD TV :)

From the prelimanary stuff I did with Turbo Tax, I'll be getting around $840ish back. Not bad! new PC, here I come!

We should be getting back around 8k. I'm thinking of talking my husband into adjusting his withholdings so we get more money during the year instead of, as Jake said, giving the government a free loan.

Don't get me wrong, I like getting a little back. But this year it's $3400 and that makes me just a bit sad.

I am getting $3400 also (Jake is my Tax Refund buddy) but I purposefully underwithheld.

I just started a new (higher paying) job in November, and I sometimes get contract work that has no withholdings. Plus I had a divorce 18 months ago. I wasn't sure exactly what all the impacts would be on my taxes, so I didn't cut it too fine.

Plus, I'm still in a big tax hole from the $80,000 or so I owed them in taxes in 2000. It's mostly paid off, but if I over-withhold, they take my refund at the end of the year and apply it to the balance. I have an installment agreement I've been paying diligently on, but over withholding is a way of forcing myself to pay a little extra over that amount, meaning it'll get paid off sooner. I know if I had that money in hand durin the year, it'd just get spent on other things.

I hate taxes, I hate taxes, I hate taxes.

When I moved to Maryland from Virginia in March '09, I failed to update my withholding information at work. So I paid VA more than they should get and Maryland nothing. I didn't work in VA at all technically, just lived there while working in MD, so I'm not sure if I should file part-time in VA, full-time in MD, and use the VA to pay the MD... but that complicates things due to wage questions.

It might be easier just to do a full resident for both states. I'll get less money from VA, but I don't have to worry about fucking things up, and I still get my nice federal return. I hate the state ones though. They try to gouge everything they can from you and I'd rather be safe than fuck up and have to pay more later.

Wow...I was expecting 2000 (which was less than last year) but I have to pay $400.

Apparently, teachers in the state of Texas get screwed. My wife was paid for three months of work (she started a part time teaching job in October) and they withheld $76 bucks on about $4600 of income. There was no social security withholding, and the amount that was withheld for a Teacher's Retirement bullshit thing was negligible as well. I asked a friend of mine at work whose wife teaches and he confirmed the same thing happened to her.

So between that and a couple of other things, our return went from $2300 for just my W2 alone to negative $400.

Fuck.
