So, I did something stupid at work today. Basically, I let something inconsequential get to me, lost my temper, and ended up making a lot of noise, including an audible curse. Bad enough, but it also happened when my coworker was working with a patient. This lead to a confrontation, wherein she stated that if it happened again, we couldn't work together (implied in this, whether she knew it or not, was that it basically meant my job, as she is far more important than I am). I have no problem with that. This was all my fault, I already apologized for my actions, and I plan to offer a fuller apology next week.

Now, for my question: During our confrontation, she stated that "we didn't have to like each other, but we have to be able to work together." Now, I have long felt that she has disliked me, but I generally chalked it up to a mild case of paranoia along with her slightly odd vocal inflection. Now, however, I'm wondering if there's something to this. I should perhaps note that I'm not too crazy about her, although not to the point of dislike, and perhaps she has picked up on this. So now, I'm wondering if I should bring this up to try to clear the air, or if I should just resign myself to the Cold War I'll be facing whenever I go in to work. Thoughts?

Don't bring this up. Just apologize for your behavior if you think you should, and agree with her that all that matters is that you work together well.

You don't need to find out if she likes you or not, you don't have to tell her you like her or not. Just work with her. And be nice to her. Well, polite at least. And things will go smoothly enough.

Don't make this a drama. There's really no need.

That sounds like good advice. Now that I reflect more upon the situation, I realize that my little tantrum was directly after something she said to me, and it could easily be construed as rage directed towards her. That may be why she said what she did. Do you think it would invite too much drama to explain that my venting was not directed towards her?

Eh, if I got another job, I probably wouldn't care. It is the proximity which mostly fuels my curiosity.

Dang, what happened to the live updates?

If you still think an apology is in order - and it may very well be - then that's what you say when you apologize. It'll probably go something like this: "Hey yeah, look. About what happened last week. I Just want to say I'm sorry again. I kinda blew up, got stressed out a little and blew up. It wasn't directed at you, though, but looking back I'm kinda thinking you might have taken it that way. So yeah, I'm sorry."

Where the hell have you been? LiveUpdate's been gone since the update months ago. :p

I'm really late to the party on this one. Sorry. With the wife out of town I haven't spent that much time on the boards. Since everyone else has answered already and their answers were done well, my answer will not be serious.

Dear Drifter,

Your coworker obviously has an account here and loves the arcade. She found out who you really were and that's why she hates you. The solution would be a total score wipe and let her get a high score.

By the way, I'm really your coworker.

Man I've worked with a ton of people I didn't like. As long as everyone can be professional... you get by. But finding a job where you like the people you work with is always better. :)

Man, you've got the Bejeweled Blitz high score. :humph:

Yeah, but at least you could say, "fuck'em, s/he's an asshole" and hold your head up high. This time, I'M the asshole. Ah well, you reap what you sow. :(

I wouldn't know. She refuses to speak to me outside of any professional instance. On the bright side, she did seem to come down from utterly despising my presence to mere disgust by the end of the day. High five!
