Enjoy.
Really I think it has mostly to do with time and resources.Yeah, they're always spectacular and they always leave me wondering why Blizzard doesn't just go ahead and put out their own movie done by their CG team. At worst it would at least break even worldwide just getting the subscribers of the games to go see it.
Come and gone at this point. The gnomes reclaimed the surface and now it's a passive situation while NPCs rebuild it or some such.I know I asked this before but I forgot the answer: what's the deal with the Gnomeregan reclaiming. Is that going on now? Is it about to? I recently decided I have time to play WoW, at least to some degree.
True, but in Warcraft lore, it's hard to get more epic than Deathwing without the Titans coming back. Even the Old Gods, such as they've appeared thus far anyway, don't really compare.Deathwing lacks the emotional heft of Arthas and Illidan.
Just wanted to add that he is not supposed to have that. Illidan and Arthas were tragic characters, they were designed to be evil but in a way you may empathize somewhat because they started out with good intentions. The cinematic for Wrath was a masterpiece because it showed the contrast of what Arthas was being raised to become and what he actually became.Deathwing lacks the emotional heft of Arthas and Illidan.
Except he'll be taken down by a bunch of 12 year olds and farmed for loot.I want someone that just blows everything up because... well... he can, like an unstoppable force of nature.
Well he will obviously be farmed for loot, you can't escape that in this type of game, but how he gets taken down may vary. It's like the Lich King, we never actually beat him, he kills us all dead, and we the players had to be saved by Tirion and the spirit of King Terenas. I sense Deathwing will involve even more people, like a massive battle in which Alexstrazsa, Ysera, Thrall, and many others may take part, and there is also no saying if we will actually kill him, much like how we never killed Kil'jaeden in Sunwell Plateau. (Which was another fight we would have lost if not for multiple important characters intervening like Anveena and Kalegos)Except he'll be taken down by a bunch of 12 year olds and farmed for loot.

Like already mentioned, that comes down to how you perceive it. For instance I know that 99% of games are going to have the bad guys lose, but that does not mean I don't enjoy, say, Mass Effect and the seemingly unstoppable power of the Reapers. I don't think of them any less because of their inevitable defeat, only about the power they show before that defeat comes. Deathwing is showing a lot of power.Oh, I know. I was just commenting that the MMO nature of the game occasionally forces you to realize that the epic quest you're on isn't quite so epic when you realize there's a line of other adventurers behind you waiting their turn to beat on him.
Rated BGs as a form of pvp progression if you are into PvP. I am not in Beta so I am not sure how those are working out.I really want to play this game again, but I'm to much of a casual gamer. I don't have time for 2-4 hour raids. Is there anything in the new expansion, or current packs, that are geared more for casual gamers?
I disagree, Deathwing is a tragic character. He was driven mad by the old Gods, and duped into creating the dragon soul disc, which fully corrupted him and drove him past the brink of insanity.Just wanted to add that he is not supposed to have that. Deathwing? He is designed to be nothing but a pure avatar of hatred and destruction with a cunning mind behind nearly pure insanity. We know he was created with pure intentions by the Titan's, but the earliest we as players get to see him in the timeline is the War of the Ancients, in which his insanity had already taken hold of him.
One of my favorite scenes involving him, I read in the last book of WOTA. Spoiler tagged just in case someone wants to read it down the line.
The Burning Legion gained the Demon Soul. They were using it to widen the portal at the center of the Well of Eternity. The Old Gods were helping this process from the shadows, as they planned to use the demon portal to escape imprisonment. Now mind you, the Old Gods were the ones to influence Deathwing to forge the Demon Soul in the first place for this very purpose.
When Deathwing realized his Demon Soul was at the center of the Well of Eternity, he went batshit insane to get it back. He flew straight into the forming Maelstrom, and forced himself down at the disk with amazing power. Sargeras himself from the other side of the portal saw this and used his magic to prevent him from claiming the disk, pushing him back. The Old Gods, also seeing this, did the same, putting their own power to stop their "servent" from ruining the plan and even tried to whisper to him to stop his advance.
The issue is, it didn't work. Deathwing had a single burning desire that no voice or power was going to stop. He flew down with such force and such rage that his very scales and skin started flaking away under the pressure. He was literally breaking in two, but he would not stop under any circumstance from claiming his creation. It came down to him even getting his claws on it, and pulling it from it's "perch" in the sky before getting obliterated by one last push by the two forces trying to stop him. The Demon Soul was knocked from his hands and he went flying all the way into the horizon.
Deathwing is basically a cunning, insane dragon, that was so damaged mentally by his defeat during Day of the Dragon that he has let himself be consumed by hate and rage. The rage is so strong it has started to break open his skin in molten fury, making the armor he wears no longer done out of protection, but done out of survival, as he would crumble to pieces. The armor we see being grafted in the video is even Elementium, being grafted to replace parts of his Adamantite armor he grafted 10,000 years ago, because even the Adamantite was burning away under his rage.
I think the cinematic fit exactly what he has become. He is rage and death, and he wants to see the world burn. He was always evil as far as we are concerned, because we never got to see him when he was the Earth Warder, and I like it that way. We don't always need a sympathetic villain, sometimes I want someone that just blows everything up because... well... he can, like an unstoppable force of nature.
He is tragic in his history, but not sympathetic in the present. Characters like Illidan and Arthas always had sympathetic notions due to more current events, like the fact Arthas "held back the Scourge" from destroying the world. Deathwing shouldn't have one of those, he needs to simply be death incarnate, and destroy everything in his path until we put him down. We don't need anything "maybe he is still good" storyline.I disagree, Deathwing is a tragic character.

Woah that is cool.Blizzard seems to agree mostly, since they have announced that until Deathwing is killed in his future raid, everyday on the server he will target a zone, the sky will go black, and he will cover it in fire. Everything in his path, both player and NPC, will perish under his shadow. Basically if you are leveling, and you enter a zone darker then it should be, you might want to turn around and wait awhile.
Here are some shots of it happening to Southern Barrens in the Beta.Whoa, so it's going to be months of just zone wipes? That's pretty badass.

Yup, here is the announcement.Wow so this is pretty much going to go on until the final patch of the xpac, isnt' it?
They went on and made sure to clarify a few things later in the thread.Once free to terrorize the world, Deathwing will randomly choose territories in Azeroth to attack each day until his ruinous reign is brought to an end. A blackened sky will be the only warning before every living creature caught in his approach is consumed by his terrible fire. The unfortunate victims of his malice will receive a rare Feat of Strength... as well as a repair bill and corpse run.
There is very little warning once he decides to strafe a zone. If you're not in the zone already, you have virtually no chance of sacrificing yourself to his flame.
If you're in the zone, you're almost definitely screwed.
Yes, this isn't a permanent event, but will last so long as he's free to roam the world.
Deathwing doesn't care what level you are.
Because his flames literally kill any creature, critter, NPC, or player in Deathwing's path, there are a few places we're not having him go for gameplay reasons. The large majority of the zones on the two continents are fair game though.
Presumably, he'll show up to pound on them for a week or so before Cata drops.Plus, cities like Orgrimmar and Stormwind are going to be pretty well blown up anyway.
Actually he won't, sadly. We will have elemental invasions, but there is nothing hinting we will actually see Deathwing's attack on Stormwind (He never actually attacks Orgrimmar, all the damaged to that place are just caused by the Shattering).Presumably, he'll show up to pound on them for a week or so before Cata drops.
