Yeah, it seems (from gaming forums) that no one is really that happy with this direction. We'll see.

You mean where you pick up strange and exotic weapons used by the enemy? Doesn't Halo do that?
I believe he was mocking that part of the game.

And even though I'm not sold on the FPS angle after Enforcer I support the rebirth of one of the greatest games of all time. After all it's possible this will finally get programmers off their duffs to make a new X-com game in the old style with fiendish enemies who can strike down your greatest soldiers with lucky shots.

Oh goddamnit...

Why, why, why?

After the ridiculous success of squad-level tactics games like Ghost recon, you're making XCOM a FPS?!!!!

Yes, Halo and Half-Life and Resistance: Fall of Man and The Conduit and Crysis and Perfect Dark and Star Trek: Voyager – Elite Force and...

I'm just puzzled as to why someone would want to make the X-COM games into an FPS. I don't think they have anything new or special to bring to the genre.

Previews are generally 96% bullshit. The first impressions for the Area 51 FPS were generally glowing too. I'll guess I'll just wait and see on this one.

If yall want an answer as to why, ask yourself when the last time you bought a tactical turn based strategy game was (like X-Com or Jagged Alliance). The problem is these aren't really made anymore and they simply don't sell well. I think the last one was....like Shadow OP or some shit like that? Can't remember.

This is a terrible decision.

And I still play JA2... it owns. Fuck the market. Make good games for Jay. :p

I don't think they should make games that don't sell well, I just wish they could come up with IPs of their own rather than dragging good things through the cheap FPS mud.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

...

What? I never got into turn based tactical strategy games when they were in their heyday. I think it's a very unfair assumption to think that such games will automatically fail. People said that adventure games were over and done, but they've definitely made a comeback (TellTale Games, Phoenix Wright, etc.). In fact, turn based tactical games are still being made for consoles, right? Does the Advance Wars series on the DS count? What about Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes, mixing the genre up with puzzle gaming?

So make it no longer turn-based and make it like GRAW, which has sold extremely well, and add an option where players can "pause" the action (like in Fallout), to issue new orders.
