Blah blah blah another thread on this game. Yadda yadda yadda.
Just wanted to alert you PC players who are interested in this game to know that the demo is out for the PC on Steam.
The three different species are unique in their on right.

Alien-the wall crawling isn't as disorienting as some people have mentioned. What's incredibly annoying though if you want to
jump between floor and ceiling is pressing the middle mouse button and the spacebar at the same time.

Marine-your one clunky guy. The radar ping is slightly nerving since the beep beep beep of approaching targets. You have
to constantly check your surroundings. Marines here are just more than meatbags in this game.

Predator-they got the species right with this one. Jumping is fine. Switching between vision modes is cool and slightly
annoying at the same time because you can't just stay in one mode through the game.

Trophy kills-Everyone is talking about how easy this is. I would have to say it isn't. So far the only trophy kills I've been
able to pull off is Alien which was sweet and Predator. The Predator is more satisfying when you plunge your blades in
and rip out the head and spine.

The only available mode in the demo was deathmatch so there was no coordination whatsoever. You had to find
and pick up weapons except the ones you start out with.

The system requirements are listed but my PC which is probably a medium ranged one gets decent frame rate.

Overall its a fun taste of whats to expect. I'd recommend checking the demo out if you have Steam. The gore
is a nice touch since they didn't tone it down at all.

Mine's running on a laptop so I'm sure if you have a desktop you'll get more than I am.
Would recommend starting out as the alien. The other two are rather terribly annoying to play as.
You can only play Deathmatch though which sucks.

A

Alucard

It's weird how they released this type of demo. Fucking deathmatch?
I'm still going to get it but I would have thought they would have been more inclined to add some single player
or other some other map. The map really sucks.

Alucard

Dude and if you have a console so go check out Bad Company 2. It's only one map but its fucking awesome.
They kicked Bad Company I way out of the park and I am looking forward to owning that as well. Everything
that was a glitch or problem in I they fixed or changed. It's like playing the perfect Battlefield. Well more of a
direct spiritial successor to Battlefield 2. It's also like being in a Bay movie. If you stay in one spot too long you
fucking die.

Gonna have to give it a shot. The alien play looks terrible, but I guess I'll have to play it before I slam it on my site.

What version were you on? I tried the PS3 one and it seemed dead. PC you don't have to wait as long.

PC, but i think it was just released when i got it last night because now i found a game pretty fast (and of course after 2 kills with the alien - who isn't as seizure inducing as the previous games - my father had something important he needed scanned and e-mailed so i had to exit).

Now i'm going back... laterz.

Alucard

Don't try the marine class. Trust me on this. Alien may be the best species to play in deathmatch.

Predators are for noobs... and Aliens are too hard to see what you're doint, or at least that's how it was before... Marines is where you show your skills.

But it's time i learn to play well with my namesake, innit.

Gah. I was playing Alien. I got DIZZY real quick :( I don't think I can play this.

You should have played the previous ones... this one is nothing. Also, man are the other two slow...

And the Marine was the only one i managed to win with, the motion tracker is bloody invaluable, the poor Predator kept getting insta-killed by the Alien if he wasn't using the Alien vision. Did like when i managed to insta-kill a Predator and just almost at the same time i got pwned by the Alien...

BTW, anyone else annoyed that they're calling it Alien Vision?! It was electromagnetic or something in the previous ones...

A

Alucard

Ehhh its a techincality in my opinion.

The last match I play I managed to trophy kill a marine after he walked underneath me when I was an alien. Then straight afterwards an alien trophy killed me.
Terribly annoying.

Yeah the predator is the worst to play in a death match if you only have your claws or blades. Constantly switching between visions was incredibly annoying.

One round as a marine I got plasma chested about 3 differnt times from a predator since he was able to find the shoulder plasma cannon.

The trophy kills have too big a range imo.

And it was always annoying that the Pred visions couldn't see the other specie at all... it would have been better if it simply was just more muted (the Alien being colder then the surroundings, so you'd see it somewaht blue-ish; the Marine being more like a white-ish ghost), with no lock-on for the caster, not full on nothing.

Dude give it a chance. Albeit they released a crappy demo but at least wait till it comes down in price.

I'd rather just not spend the money.

It didn't run too well on my computer either, so even if I had liked the ability stuff, I'd have to wait until I get a new laptop. As it is, I wasn't too impressed. Maybe the single-player would be more interesting, but for the multi, I can get the powers fix from Team Fortress 2, even if the aesthetic is entirely different.

A

Alucard

Gotcha oh well. I got decent framerate so I guess that wasn't the problem then.

It was weird because most of those species work together as a team. Well at least the aliens and the marines.
Did you really get that bad of a framerate?

C

Chibibar

for me, I won't buy it cause the motion is too fast :) I get sick easily. There are some FPS that I can stand for so long before I get too dizzy and start throwing up.

Alucard

Huh at least you have a valid excuse lol. Go check out Bad Company 2 instead dude. The demo is freakin awesome.
Its like a spiritual successor to Battlefield 2.

What?! Unless you wanted to play the Alien exclusively i find that the other two move way too slow unless running, and even that could use a speed up...

And anyone else annoyed at the Predator's other weapons operating on such a console-ish scheme? Took me a while to figure it out, until i got it was gamepad based... and it still feel inferior to the one in AvP2.

It wasn't terrible, but it was dodgy enough, and while that probably will be better in the full game, the abilities and such won't be. Like I said, I could see myself enjoying single-player, but I buy into your logic as much as I'm going to buy this game. This isn't a beta; it's a demo. Its purpose isn't to work out the kinks, it's to sell the game. It didn't sell the game. Why pay less when the price goes down for a game whose demo wasn't enjoyable to me when I could be better off buying a game that had a demo which I enjoyed and so hinted toward a game I would enjoy? I really wish they'd done a single-player demo so I could judge that at all. The map is not the issue--there's no meat to this as far as I can tell. And I see no point in paying them, and then saying "Wow, the demo really did reflect the quality of the game. I sure am glad I spent money on a game I was pretty much told I wouldn't like based on the demo they released."

It just doesn't make sense to me to say "wait until it's less expensive, and then you might like it more."

I'm not saying you shouldn't like the game; I just think that was a pile of crap.

Lien: there's a dash command.

Which is why i said" unless running"...

But i just checked AvP2 and they weren't as fast as i remember there either...

And demos are rarely a good indication of how much you'll enjoy a game... once it's out i suggest you try out the full version somewhere...

I felt the alien was fine. The only thing I didn't care for was the marine who was the clunkiest and slow moving.
Heck I was even surpised how much faster the Predators could run over the Marines.

Still looking forward to the full game but I don't think I'm going to play the Marine's story though.

A

Alucard

Got some more matches in on the PS3 demo. Picked up the plasma cannon. Fucking insane. The predator is overly uber.
Can't wait to do more of the different multiplayer modes though.

A

Alucard

Looks pretty good. The PS3 demo doesn't suck ass. I think more people are playing that now since the game is going to be released next week.
Once you have some friends online its quicker to start a game going.

I will be picking it up for the xbox when it comes out. I am selling my pc, since I just do not use it enough over my laptop, and while the laptop will run it, I jsut do not think it will well enough for me.

That said, I played the shit out of all the other games from the series before, and actually still do up to very recently. And while I hate srtraight up deathmatch, it at least lets me get a feel for what the game will be like somewhat, and I am excited. I cannot wait for the other modes, and since they are bringing back the survivor mode, I know thats what I will be playing pretty much exclusively.

Game looks great and handles well in the demo, they jsut made a poor choice for the level and gametype for this little release. That said, I am having quite a bit of fun with it.

ACtually, looking at Buckley's post on CAD about the game and the demo, I actually agree with him there (gasp!)

Good heavens. The world is coming to an end.
It seems like thats what most people are saying about the demo. I mean majority of demos released have been single player.
Except Army of Two: 40th Day and Bad Company 2 that were strictly online. Although they chose a better level/map.

Just surprised that Rebellion would pick such a shoddy level and mode to play. Rarely people nowadays even play
deathmatch. Can't wait for infestation mode that and the wave mode.

Well, I don't expect them to give me a TON in a demo, but they just happened to provide the gametype I hate the most in this demo (deathmatch). I'll still buy the game since I've heard about some of the other gameplay modes (I think there are going to be 6 different game types), and it sounds fun. But, they aren't selling me on the game with this particular demo.
