Got a book on digital painting that I've wanted for awhile, a couple making of/art books for The Hobbit, a BluRay with Dune/Last Starfighter/Battlestar Galactica/Flash Gordon on it, Skyrim for PS3, a Gundam model, and a new hat.

I was jobless for most of the last month and a half, so I traded a stack of games I (mostly) wasn't playing to get my brother Resident Evil: Revelations for his 3DS and the Killzone collection for my dad. Had about $25 leftover on a giftcard, so I gave that to my brother to get another game if he wants. Got my mom some new flannel pajama pants (bulldog print, she's a Georgia fan) and a Padres jersey. Probably going to stay home while my folks go to camp at the beach for New Years, so I can watch the dogs while they relax before going back to work. Maybe take the Christmas stuff down for them while they're gone too.

My mummy sent me money, bless her retired public school teacher head, so I bought Frozen Planet and Planet Earth from the BBC. The doomweasels were really interested in the shots of the wolverines and have been stomping around looking for a frozen moose to dismember and drag off to their lair.
They weren't as interested in the shots of the ermine killing the vole, as their attitude is "been there, done that" and "that's so yesterday, mom!"
I have spoiled doomweasels.

So you did, my apologies. Oddly enough, I had seen thee line *before* and *after* that, and I simply didn't see your line. I stand corrected. I'll stick to mice and voles for lunch today ;-)

The big one: 50, 000 airmiles from my parents. Wow. I don't even. I'm not even sure what that is equivalent too. I think its two tickets anywhere in Canada and the states...but is that enough to get to some place like Iceland or England? I'm really curious.

I was astounded by all this money. Like, how do you even respond to getting that much fucking cash?

I guess by placing an order on rightstuf, if my morning is any indication.

I got some good stuff this Christmas:
- X-men First Class on DVD
- A solar and crank powered emergency radio/flashlight that can also be used to charge cellphones.
- A CD-holder that clips onto a car sun visor thingy.
- Several spools of thread
- A seam-ripper
- A set of spring-loaded fabric scissors
- A box of satin pins

...but the last is something special. I'm trying to not think about it's meaning too much right now, or I'll start to cry. Because my mom knows I want to cosplay, one of my presents was a sewing machine. Not just any sewing machine, though. It was my older sister's. She bought it while she was sick, because she'd hoped it would be easier to use for her or something. She never got to, though. I think she had it for years, but never got strong enough to start sewing again.

Mind you, she could have done it herself, but the doomweasels get bored if not given regular missions. And bored doomweasels are dangerously adorable.

Onto the thread topic...

My wife practices gift sequestration. Anything I order for myself from October on that I can't give a reasonable "I need it now" explanation for magically transforms into a Christmas gift. It's implicit permission for me to splurge on things I wouldn't otherwise during the fall holiday sales, and apparently I'm very difficult to buy for. She usually adds a few other things to surprise me with.

So I was busy skipping black friday sales, but then Tuesday rolled around and Amazon was selling their old kindle fire for $130, and I have many reasons to get one (programming, client work, collecting android games when they go on sale, free book a month due to amazon prime, and having a cheap tablet to hand the kids with no regrets). This of course led to a few kindle accessories (all on sale or using coupons - I spent under $160 for the kindle, case, and charger. 1/4 the cost of my iPad...)

Also found Looney Tunes Blu-Ray volume one on sale for $30. Please note the warning on the back, "Looney Tunes Platinum Blu-Ray Collection Volume One is Intended for the Adult Collector and May Not Be Suitable for Children." Man, this brings back memories. I can't believe how expensive it is when it's not on sale, which means it'll be awhile before I get volume two.

Finally found a cheap bluetooth audio receiver that had most of the features I wanted - small, searches for my phone when powered on, about 8 hours of battery life. Would be nice if it had play/pause, fast forward, reverse, and volume buttons, but that doubles the cost, size, etc. So now I can get in the car and hit play on my phone, rather than fiddling with an audio cable and knowing that the audio jack on my phone will break in a year:

My wife made custom t-shirts for everybody (check out the pictures thread). Each of the kids has a stick figure, and mine has a copy of all the stick figures on the kids shirts and a cute saying on the back. Lots of candy, and the usual personal items my wife fills the stockings with (shampoo, deodorant, etc).

And, of course, I'll be able to play with the various toys my kids got. I never had domino rally when I was a kid, but my inlaws got some for one of my sons. Tetris has apparently been made into a board game similar to connect four. Etc, etc, etc.

Yeah, sadly it looks like Aeroplan miles are much less "valuable" than regular air miles. People on one site are quoting 340K miles to fly round-trip from Calgary to Las Vegas as of 2009.

Persona 3 is still awesome! I prefer the portable version where you can have the female main character. I just like flirting with all the male characters.

I like Persona 3 also, it's just tough to do anything but work on stats outside of the dungeon because of all the possible missed links/opportunities, which apparently isn't quite the case in 4.

Got my wife a coffee bar for Christmas this year: Krups burr grinder, Chemex pot, Aeropress brewer, Ikea milk foamer, and some homemade vanilla, cinnamon, and gingerbread syrup. It's been a huge hit, and we haven't been to Arabica or Caribou in the past week. Next up is a small roaster and a regular shipment of beans from Sweet Maria's, when we've saved enough on our coffee budget to afford it. At the current rate, that will be halfway through March.

She got me a vintage shaving kit with a safety razor, brush and soap, and aftershave balm. Also a huge hit, though I had to go get a styptic pencil after the first day (ouch).

Her parents got us a VitaMix blender and some cash, plus tons of toys and books for the kids. Christmas with my parents was delayed a week due to Mom's heart attack, so that remains to be seen. We'll be making the trip south tomorrow.
