Yeah... I've only seen the first season and I gotta say, nooooot digging this change. I admit partially liking MLP:FiM because it didn't kowtow this goddamn notion that everybody's special and a princess and gets to live in a castle. And no matter what they say how they're not making Twilight Sparkle a princess in the traditional sense, it's still a big stinking pile of bullcrap on a surprisingly original show.

That being said, the Bronies song was funny.

On the one hand I'm a little annoyed that this was out-right spoiled before I could see the episode. On the other hand- HOLY SHIT YES! Next level biotchers!

It was spoiled by The Hub's Facebook page! I'm not exactly shocked it's happening, but I am shocked that the network airing MLP:FiM posted such a major spoiler themselves.

Wait, they were the ones that spoiled it? I thought was a leak! That...that is odd. Very very odd.

Not only did they spoil it, they told people to "share" (complete with unnecessary quote marks) the news with others:

"Share" the news with all of Equestria: everypony is cordially invited to Twilight Sparkle's Princess Coronation - 2/16 on My Little Pony Friendship is Magic! http://bit.ly/XIb9kc

(The Link is to an Entertainment Weekly news article that has a couple paragraphs about the upcoming episode, and a half-dozen paragraphs over 5 pages talking about new toys that match the change.)

On a semi-related note, the MLP:FiM toys still look anorexic to me. Something about the proportions doesn't look right.

Aren't the blind bag toys the ones they made to look more show accurate? I know they are the only way to get some of the odd ones, like Big Macintosh and Trixie outside of some of the sets. Was Zecora a blind bag or was she a stand alone toy? I know she flew off the shelves and people have been having trouble finding one.

But yeah, it's all about the toys. The whole wedding thing last year was to introduce Princess Cadence, who was created explicitly because the toy folks wanted a pink pony but the fans wanted a show accurate Princess Celestia (who WAS a pink toy but is now white). Some of the toy driven decisions this year...

- Crystal Empire: Basically everyone important has a Crystal variant toy or a crystal style blind bag toy.
- New characters: More toys to sell. I think we're getting a Babs Seed one sometime over the summer and some of Wonderbolt Academy ones were ether former toys or variants.
- Bringing back old characters: The Wonderbolts all got figures in the last Blind Bag run. Discord is -likely- to be getting a set figure (considering Gilda got one and she was only in a single episode).

No, I don't have ANY of these.

Thats always a sore spot for me, the fact that such a good show has to be a toy commercial. Capitalism is the many clawed beast that clings to a cartoon for years to come.

I know, but it still bothers me how it can dominate a show. I've seen toy-lines ruin perfectly good cartoons before by shoving too much stuff in, and while I'm optimistic that it won't happen to this show a part of me still worries.

In all seriousness, it hasn't been that bad. From what I've read, Hasbro's involvement with the show is basically "We're doing THIS for the toyline. Come up with something good", and then the production team always has, so I'm not too concerned about it. The wedding thing turned into two great episodes and the Crystal Empire episodes weren't terrible by any stretch.

True, those episodes were awesome.

Honestly I'm not dreading the whole alicorn thing(when they bring in the dino ponies thats when I'll worry). What I AM dreading however is the butt-ton of memes on "My little brony" about how long it'll be until season 4 after this season is done. It was freaking insufferable.

It'll still probably be a full year. It's likely next season will be just as short though, as they don't "need" new episodes to sell them in syndication anymore.

No, Ms. McCarthy... YOU want every little girl to want to be a princess. This is because Princesses need STUFF and you want to sell them that STUFF.

I forgive them for the nylon hair on all their toys. The entire gimmick of the My Little Pony line has always been the brushable mane and tail, so it's something they need to include. If they didn't then the classic collectors would complain and they've been buying these thing a lot longer than the bronies have.

And the Pink Princess Celestia thing has already been addressed: The toy guys wanted a pink toy because pink toys sell better to little girls. Celestia toys were pink until Cadance was introduced, so now bronies get show accurate Celestias and little girls get their pink ponies.

As for why the bodies are always off-model... It's because it's expensive as hell to make molds for these things, so you always want to make one you can re-use for another toy. Transformers have the same problem and it's fandom makes the same complaints. Unfortunately, until the community is willing to pay hundreds of dollars for a toy like the Transformers fans are, you ain't going to see special figures outside of some sets.

"Willing to pay hundreds of dollars for a toy" is still not an economically viable niche market for the MLP:FiM crowd?

Huh... That's... that's actually pretty surprising, to be honest.

It hasn't been for Transformers and that's a much bigger fandom. Yes, you get a Botcon exclusive every year (which costs a bundle) but to do it on a large scale would be cost prohibitive. I've seen estimates of thousands of dollars for a one-off.

So yeah... that's almost certainly a series finale. Or at least it felt like one. Though I doubt we'll know for a bit if it is or isn't.

I really hope the first episode of the next season has to deal with the relationship and lifestyle issues this change is going to cause. They are fundamentally changing the dynamic of the show and while I'm sure the other characters aren't going to stop being her friends, I really don't see how Twilight could keep living like she does or how her friends can keep things going as they are.
It'd be interesting if they followed this angle, a friend having to leave, changes in dynamic for that kind of long distance, acceptance of maturing into adulthood. It'd be bittersweet and probably the end of the show. I'd watch the show again for that kind of arc, though.

It'll never happen.

Nice finale, not as good as 1 or 2's finales, but a good one I'd say.

But yeah...Equestria girls...who else is teetering on the fence on this ?

The only reason why I think there MIGHT be a new season is because they haven't resolved the stuff with the Cutie Mark Crusaders (and have in fact added more) and one of the people from the show said how this was basically part 1 of a three parter, in content if not design.

If the Cutie Mark Crusaders ever get their cutie marks, that will be the true ending of the show. They'll have finally resolved their longest going and crucial plotline to which more time has been devoted than any element of the show besides friendship.

Remember girls, get your periods soon--or sing about not getting them!

Well this seasons done, now we just get to sit back and watch everybrony on the internet complain about how long it'll take to make season four. Lather , rinse, repeat.
