[TV] The Walking Dead

Goddamn, that scene was masterful. Didn't see it coming.
The best part is that they had been building up to that from the very first moments of the game.

You see his station wagon while your being driven to the prison in episode 1. That means they had this planned THE ENTIRE TIME. My god. It comes from nowhere, but if you replay the game, you see it pop up so many times.

I'll have to look out for that next time.

Pretty good episode this week. Very talky, but it was interesting and engaging talk.

That said, am I the only one getting sick of the WB-style of every episode ending with a song?

I did alot of screaming at the TV this week.

SHOOT HIM. SHOOT HIM NOW.
Oh HELL NO HE DID NOT SAY THAT ABOUT THE BABY!?
ANDREA I KNOW YOU'RE STUPID BUT MAKE UP FOR IT, GO GO GO WITH THEM OH FUCK NO!
NO RICK, DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER THAT BULLSHIT!

I actually think Andrea has decided to side with Rick, but went back with the Gov because she feels she needs to try to control things on the Woodbury side.
I get that to an extent, but still...... she's obviously not going to shiv the Governor, she'd do well firing shots from the Prison during the attack.

I couldn't help but think that during the sex scene, something was coming. I mean, besides Glenn. :rimshot:

In the Talking Dead segment, they showed a clip from next week's episode.

That surgery room makes me think Rick will lose his hand then.

At the end...
When Rick told the group they were going to war, I thought he'd seen through the Governor's crap. And he had! But then he's willing to risk it anyway? He knows this isn't going to work out. Dammit, Rick.

Looking at stuff for the FPS game that is out... visually, it's completely uninteresting. I blame this squarely on Terminal Reality, who haven't released a good game since Blair Witch: Rustin Parr. But it's at least trying to follow the survival angle pretty well. Trying to rambo through walkers will get you killed, so you want to try and sneak around, backstabbing the ones you can and avoiding the rest. Guns are loud and attract more walkers, who seem to spawn endlessly if your doing stupid shit. You need to find new weapons because they break down (or maybe it's just for variety?). You need to manage resources like gas and other survivors, who can go out and find stuff on their own if you ask them to.

Is it a good game? I can't say yet, as I've barely seen any of it. But it's at least TRYING to avoid the normal things for games aimed at dewchuggers.

EDIT: Activision is really on the ball about sending notices to youtube. Already had them take down 6 sets of videos showing off the game.

Yes, God forbid people show interest in your game.
It IS 3 days before release and I personally know people who will cancel a pre-order if they can watch the entire game somewhere else. Those first week sales are super important, so I can't really fault them for it.

Oh, I didn't realize they were pre-release. That at least makes a tiny bit of sense.

However it still seems similar to SNL throwing a hissy fit if a clip ends up on youtube of a part of the show. People want to watch. There's a chance it will make them tune in/buy your product. Duh.

Companies don't want any sort of info on games coming out beforehand, especially if the game looks like crap.

Hell, there was a talk at GDC about how making a demo for your game guarantees fewer sales.

Basically, if your game is bad, then a demo only highlights that fact. Anyone who plays the demo will know and not buy the game. So the thinking is that you shouldn't make a demo if you have doubts about your game from a marketing perspective.

On the other hand, even if the game is good, someone who wasn't interested in your game in the first place probably isn't going to get the demo. So really, a demo just works to tide over fans of that where already going to buy the game. It ether misses most everyone else or actively drives them away. Your actually likely to lose more than you'd gain.

From a consumer stand point, demos are great. But if your trying to SELL a game... yeah, I can see why there'd be a problem.

Holy Jesus, I've seen some of the videos of the Activision Walking Dead game. What a fucking difference.

Telltale makes a game that is basically one of the most emotionally investing games ever made. Hell, it's more interactive fiction. It's a work of art really. It's not even fun to play, but it's narrative kept me going through and the end left me in shambles for about an hour. It's really spectacular.

Then Activision pops it's head out and says, "Hey, we got Merl and Derl in this complete waste piece of shit licensed FPS! Walking Dead y'all!"

Latest episode (3/17/13) was a fantastic roller coaster. I had so many guesses as to what was going to happen then we got -that- ending. Jeeze, I'm just glad
she's not dead
but it's almost worse.

When it showed her walking towards the prison and it had Rick in the tower with the rifle, I was almost certain we were going to have a repeat of when she shot Daryl by accident. Rick's not in his right mind and she's out in the middle of nowhere, with a fair amount of blood on her. It would have been poetic justice for her to almost die getting into the prison, considering her former actions.

What we got instead was pretty good too, I guess. Though it makes me wonder who/how they are going to spring her before the season ends, unless it's Tyrese.

The Talking Dead segment afterward was quite insightful. There's a reason Andrea went full retard concerning the Governor throughout most of the season. She had spent eight months on the run, half-starved, filthy, and sick. When you consider Maslow's hierarchy of needs, the Governor met Andrea's needs for food, shelter, safety, and a sense of belonging. Andrea could then focus on rebuilding her self-esteem and confidence. It allowed her to become the person she was before the apocalypse. It's kinda hard to destroy whoever allowed you to be yourself again.

The timing of this series is so bonkers, it always fucks with my head. She was out there for the better part of the year? The baby is only like, a week old? Does anyone else feel like time has been chugging along when it really hasn't?

I thought they were a long ass away from Rick's hometown, but it appears to be nothing more than a day trip.

They outright say when time is advancing more quickly than normal. Season 3 started with them mentioning how they'd been scavenging all winter long.

They outright said that it was 8 months between seasons at one point.

They also said they had been scavenging in circles before they found the prison, so all those areas were pretty connected. Had they actually been traveling farther and farther away for all those months, they'd be out of Georgia by now.

Good episode. Really tense. Andrea went through hell for them and

it still didn't work out. Seeing all those tools he meant for Michonne, I'm scared of what's going to happen.

While I thought it was a good episode overall and Andrea was actually being a decent person/decision maker this round, she has like the worst situational awareness ever. She lets zombie in the crunchy ground wilderness sneak up on her, and then I imagine while she did not expect the Governor to survive he probably had to make some ground to catch up to her after dealing with the zombies(again in crunchy wilderness.) Considering she spent 8 months out in the wild with Michonne I figured she would be better at survival by then.
