[Movies] Talk about the last movie you saw 2: Electric Threadaloo

No, but I kind of know too much about that one because of people who can't shut up. If it shows up on Netflix or for free rent on Prime, I'll watch it, but I'm not going out of my way.
Sorry people have ruined it for you. Hard to keep a lid on something so epic like that, specially after a year of it being out. I still recommend it though. The comedy and dialogue in it is gold, plus the visuals of what I like to call the "shit hitting the fan" scene are just too hilarious to pass up. If you LOVE horror movies, it's the ultimate Meta-Horror. The more you know about the horror genre going in the better you'll enjoy it. And when was the last horror movie where the "comic relief" character is actually the best damn character in the film?
Honestly? Who cares if it's officially spoiled for you? See it anyway.

Prometheus

While it had some great visuals, the story was all over the place and the whole thing ended very abruptly with zero resolution. Other than a bunch of kinda nods to the previous entries in the series this movie really felt like it knew where it wanted to go but had no idea how to get there.
I will forever have happy memories of Prometheus because I saw it with a really hot female friend. I have no idea what the movie's about though.

I believe the plot is essentially what would happen if Ridley Scott forgot about 90% of the plot of the original Alien film, and then made a prequel.

I do not get the Prometheus hate. There's some nitpicky things I didn't care for involving character decisions but it was as good as Aliens and far better than Alien 3 and 4. I never expected it to match up to Alien though, thats a perfect film.

I need more time in my life, I want desperately to do a double showing of Evil Dead/Lords of Salem this weekend but I doubt I can fit it in. :(

Alien has this mood that's difficult to recreate. It really just hits you with the loneliness of space. The DP was perfect. You get these little warm-yet-artificial fluorescent soft lights that feel like artificial home. At least until the alien shows up. You could probably even attribute part of it to the grainy film. Feels almost like a home movie. There's this duality of lonely and home, all of which is invaded by this hard, cold alien.

It was like a month, not a year. People are asses.

And I'm going to see it; I'm just not going out of my way to do so. It'll happen.

I'm watching Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides. It is something of a big dumb movie, that is a little fun. But I just can't watch it all in one go. I'll watch one scene then pause it and walk away for an hour then come back to it. I might finish it sometime this weekend.

Oh man, silly me, why didn't I think, "Hey, I wonder if Gilgamesh has reviwed the film that Chad is discussing. Maybe I should go back through every page of this 125 page thread just to see..." :p

How come?
Not sure where Gilg's post is, and theoretically I'm working so I won't go hunt, but in short: numerous things don't make sense (it's hard to hide a body in the future, but you can definitely kidnap someone, murder their wife (and by the way, what about her body?!), and take them to a hidden (why can you hide a large time machine?!) time machine), there is no one I really root for, except, I guess, the mom. Young Joe is a selfish murderer, Old Joe murders children. The only point you can be like, ah, he did the right thing, is the end. The voice over was awful. Overused. Especially the end when
he explains why he's going to shoot himself
.

Lots of bad telling-instead-of-showing moments. That one guy is OBSESSED with gaining the old Future Mob guy's validation, and instead of trying to show us this, they just tell us, he literally says, "Tell me I did good. It's all I ever I wanted." Urgh. And the gunman who shows up to get Young Joe at the farm, we're told he's the best shot there is, but we never see evidence of this: why not establish him as a good shot earlier? Garret Dillahunt is a good actor, I'd have loved it if he was more of a character. He'd be a way more interesting nemesis anyway, since he had more character in his brief time than the aforementioned rageaholic validation nutjob.

I could go on but I should do some of, you know, my job.

Espy - Not at all what I meant, I'm simply saying that I was guessing it was for the same reasons, I didn't say it was a bad movie but I pointed out the things that personally bothered me enough not to enjoy it.

Seriously though, I'm just super indifferent about it. I honestly don't have any feelings one way or the other. Was a good way to kill a few hours and it was free but overall I kinda came out of it thinking "Meh..."

I had a pretty similar reaction as Chad to Looper (though I think I may have liked it more, going by tone :p). The whole premise just seemed extremely overly elaborate for the plot weight they gave it.

In the future, why didn't they just kill the guy, burn him in a furnace, etc. etc. without bothering with the time machine? Why not physically replace the time machine in that warehouse with an industrial furnace?

How about the biggest loop hole around, why bother having you kill yourself? Too much chance of screwing it up. Just send another assassin. Just plain silly.

Avengers: I've had this Bluray sitting around since it's release, but just never got to it until tonight. I saw it in theaters of course, but this was my first time seeing it since. Maybe it was just the theater experience that killed it the first time for me, but I was really able to appreciate the second time around. The beauty of the Bluray definition helped quite a bit as well, as I remember the night scenes in the theater were so dark it was hard to see what was going on. I have to give Joss a lot of credit for making a super hero team movie that actually insures that each member of the team gets their limelight. Not only that but each one of them gets to interact with the villain in very character appropriate manners. Even characters with significantly more powerful abilities don't seem to outshine the others, as everyone was given plenty to do. I especially love Black Widow's interaction with Loki in the holding cell on S.H.I.E.L.Ds HQ. Too many times the "Villain lets himself get caught to cause damage from within" gets overused in movies, but at least in this one they knew right from the beginning that he was planning something. Black Widow's unique form of interrogation was all they needed to figure it out.

Redline
What the hell was that?

The Third Man

Loved it. Was surprised at how sharp and pithy a lot of the dialogue was. It was a lot more fun than I expected. For some reason I expected a grittier, noir-esque affair. That's not what I got, what I got was better.

This didn't even occur to me; I just accepted it. But yeah. Their system was basically designed to be cocked-up.
The ending pissed me off too, I mean he could have just
Shot the hand he was using to shoot at the kid then disabled the older version. For purely dramatic effect, he shoots himself fatally.

Pretty, at least?
That's a shame. I was hoping it would be good.

Visually the movie is great. I think I've realized why I was so indifferent to it.

It reminds me a lot of a worse Moon with a bigger budget, and I really liked Moon. It's like they saw it and said "You know what would make this better? A bunch of other characters that we're going to flesh about about as much as if they weren't there anyway."

The biggest Loophole of Looper.
If you kill yourself in order to un-exist your older self, just so you can stop a young kid from becoming the man who will eventually send your older self back in the first place... HOW THE HELL HAS THE UNIVERSE NOT COLLAPSED UPON ITSELF? Plus, if I really need to nitpick, if the older self never existed at all, there would be no truck full of money for the woman and her kid to come across.

Otherwise I kinda liked it.

Tintin

Holy crap, this movie was awesome! Seriously! How did I not see this in the theater?? It was like old school fun. I was on the edge of my seat, laughing at the jokes, cheering, solving the puzzles. I want to have Spielberg's babies.

Argo. I liked it a lot. Considering you know how the movie ends, it does a great job of ramping up the suspense through the movie, and the cast is fantastic.

You know that scene halfway through where Willis says shut the fuck up about time paradoxes and such?

Well, I'm not going to be that rude, but I think you get my drift. It's like in The Spy Who Shagged Me. It's best not to think too much about it. It's time travel. Thinking about it too much in almost any story will give you a headache.

I'm all for shutting my brain off and not thinking for certain movies ThatNickGuy but when the problems are easily solved but they do them anyway in a movie THEN their reason is -Because we say so- it's a bit weak.
