Super Hero Birthday BASH! POW!

My wife and I (well let's face it. Mostly my wife) put together a Super-Hero themed party for our three eldest kiddos. They all have birthdays around the same time, so it just seemed to make the most sense to condense them into one big party. And what a bash it turned out to be. The kids all go to a pre-school so we wanted to make sure that we invited everyone from each of their classes. My wife put together some invitations that resembled mission folders with "top secret" instructions for kids to show up for super-hero training. Once we had an idea how many people were coming she started hand-making a silk cape for every child attendee. For party favors she got a huge box of tootsie-roll pops and dressed them up like super heroes, cape and all. She picked up some Marvel cookie cutters and frosted the cookies herself. She asked me to handle a "bowling" game where we painted the plastic balls from a kid's bowling game to resemble boulders that they could hurl at a group of villains. She also had me set up a bunch of boxes to resemble a buildings that the kids could stack and build as they liked (though ultimately they loved destroying them more-so than building them up). Throw in some specialty bags, plenty of food/pizza, a bounce-house (though the rental company told us last minute we couldn't have a Spider-man bounce house), a wonderful cake that my wife designed and made and voila.

Honestly it went pretty well.

The only thing that would have been better is if we make better preparation with the "special guest stars". We contacted a company that specializes in character appearances and they have a lot of nice super hero costumes at their disposal. So we wanted Iron Man, The Hulk, Spider-Man, and Iron Man to crash the party and give the kids a special "training lesson". Sadly we booked them too late in the day and our guests started to leave beforehand. Then The Hulk had to cancel do to being in the ER (in other words: Hungover), and then they called to tell us they'd be half an hour late. We ended up just cancelling their appearance completely. We may have to pay for their gas, but otherwise I will fight them if they give us a hard time about any more than that.

I realized something tonight. Having kids is sort of like The Doctor having a companion. He doesn't get excitement or awe from amazing things anymore because he's seen it all. But he sees it through their eyes because they get excited.

It's like that, isn't it? :D

Absolutely. The chance to live vicariously through your kids is why we have them in the first place right?

I wish I'd had a birthday party like this. :(
I wish I had a wife like that. Beautiful and can pull off an amazing party like this? Shawnacy you are a very lucky man.

The closest I've come to a party like this was a Masters of the Universe themed party when I was like 8 or 9. No bouncy castles, no costumes, but my mom did make a "Pin the sword on He-Man" game for us to play, and we each got to top our own personal pizza. I was pretty impressed with the themed plates, cups and napkins, plus my cake had some sort of figurine as a topper. Not my best birthday, but definitely the most themed.

When my daughter was younger we had a princesses and pirates dress up party for her. It was really cute :)
Please tell me you had rodents of unusual sizes, a bishop with a speech impediment, or a six-fingered man in attendance.

Or at least Billy Crystal. I mean, he'd probably show up for a nice MLT.
