[Movies] Talk about the last movie you saw 2: Electric Threadaloo

Star Trek was so good. One of, if not the most fun and oddly touching films so far this year. Not a big trekkie beyond this series but I am loving these movies. It will be interesting to see where the movies go now that JJ is doing Star Wars. I really hope he sticks around in some capacity to help with future films.

Despite warnings from those here, I decided to watch The Man with the Iron Fists.

While watching it, I didn't think it was terrible. I felt the plot was a little weak, but I could tell they were going for a cheesy kung-fu movie vibe, so I didn't really fault it that much. The fights were bloody, but not super interesting, and interesting things that did happen didn't happen for very long. It seemed like characters didn't last long before being killed off. Still, I didn't hate it, so I thought maybe this was merely a mediocre film.

Now, a few days after having watched it, I can't remember how it ended, or even most of what happened. It's just... gone. I've never had that happen in a movie before. So that's pretty telling of how uninteresting it was.

Iron Man: It's been so long, I forgot how good it was. In fact, I haven't seen this since it was in theaters and I did a double-feature with The Incredible Hulk. This is a patient movie, focusing all its energy on Tony Stark, his building things, his personality, and yet the side characters (Coleson, Pepper, Rhodes, Jeff Bridges) stand out too. I also think Terrence Howard made a better Rhodes than Don Cheadle.

The Phantom Menace

I haven't truly sat down and watched this in years. I ... I didn't find it as bad this time. In fact, I'd go so far as the say the last 45 minutes are pretty enjoyable. It's just a shame it's prefaced by and hour and fifteen minutes of slow, badly acted movie.

Wha...

Just finished watching Brave. It's not a bad movie... it just felt like a Disney movie and not a Pixar movie. Oh sure, it's gorgeous, but it really didn't have a lot of good comedy (I can't remember laughing once) and the second act felt like it didn't know what the story was supposed to be about. Not sure if I'll watch it again...

I also tried watching it about a month ago. I stopped it 5 min or so after Jar Jar showed up. It is worse than I remember.

I have free tickets to go see Now You See Me. It looks crappy, but hey free tickets.

UGH, it could be great but you're not supposed to use shitty CG to simulate fucking stage magic in a movie. IT LOOKS LIKE SHIT.

John Dies at the End. Weird, weird movie. Still haven't figured out if I like it yet. It has redeemable parts, but some things are just off and unexplained. It's a very disjointed movie that suffers from poor editing and timelining. Unlike Pulp Fiction when you can pretty much piece things together afterwards, John Dies at the End suffers from an almost schizophrenic pacing. There are parts of it I still don't know where it fits on the timeline. I recommend it and it is on Netflix Streaming, but be warned that if you get up to pee you'd better pause it because you might miss an inexplicable change of pace.

Brave feels like Disney poked and prodded Pixar to make a princess movie until they finally gave in. But I've already seen "Brother Bear" so it gave us nothing new EXCEPT a princess.

A princess that is similar in many ways to many previous princesses, so much so that it felt really watered down.

Music was great though, which is the only reason I went to see it anyway. :)

My sister and her boyfriend are crazy excited for this movie. I was so confused when they looked expectantly at me after showing me the trailer. I'm just, like... "Really? That's gonna be terrible."
I'm excited for it. I guess because I love caper movies AND movies about stage magic. So this is just a combo of the two. At least that's what it appears in the trailer. I won't go see movies in the theater while we have a newborn, so I'll have plenty of time to see the reviews.
The best stage magic movie ever is still The Prestige though.

Fat Kid Rules The World

This movie is way better than it has any right to be. I mean, look at that movie poster. You think you know what this is, right? It's either a crappy teen comedy or a crappy napoleon dynamite knockoff.

I knew I was wrong about this movie in the first ten minutes, when it opens with said fat kid trying to kill himself by jumping in front of a bus. What follows is a surprisingly well acted movie about a social reject and a homeless drug addict finding out how they can help each other, except in a far less sappy way than I just described. What humor it does have comes from a surprisingly dark place. Seriously, it's good, trust me on this one.

Is this finally out on DVD? Where did you see it?

Now You See Me. And, I wish I didn't.

It's full of bad acting and poor pacing. It's too long. It's in no way comparable to The Prestige or Oceans 11. The "magic" is lame, and the "heists" aren't clever.

I'd say it's about as good as National Treasure 2. It just feels like a crappy sequel.

Thanks for the honest review. I'm losing interest in it.

Stage magic done in movies with CGI always looks super lame.

I wonder why they don't ever think to use actual stage magic?
All the magic in the show is quite boring. Nothing seems "real" b/c of the CGI. Besides, the cast are supposed to be performing in front of big audiences, but none of them have big enough personalities to pull it off.

I wanted to like Burt Wonderstone too. :(

I FINALLY saw Tron today, and I loved it! While by today's standards the graphics aren't as intricate, it still looked beautiful. Only one problem that bugged me with the film...why did Sark have Vs on him? His name does not a V in it! Is it because he's a villain?

I'm such a huge nerd for Tron, I even loved the new sequel simply because we got more of the -Universe-.

You mean... Snake? It's available on like every device ever. My graphic calculator in highschool had it on it.
I mean from the program's point of view. In snake you have a complete view of the world your in, but in Tron they flipped that script and made need to pay attention EXTREMELY carefully. Actually I think there is a type of snake like that, but I forget the name.

I'm 98.5% sure there is a Tron game where two players draw paths with their light cycles, and try to trap the other guy. Top-down perspective.

I say this without having seen the movie, so I may be stating the obvious.
