Own a Nintendo 3DS? You're probably all too familiar with the frustrations of the device's StreetPass feature -- in the United States, crossing paths with another 3DS in the wild just isn't all that likely. It's one of the disadvantages of living in a less densly populated country, but Nintendo is delivering a hotfix: sometime in the next few weeks Nintendo Zone locations at Best Buy, Starbucks, various AT&T hotspots, malls and other locations will begin saving and relaying 3DS StreetPass data, allowing gamers to interact by proxy.

I am lucky to get one Streetpass a day that isn't my wife or coworker, but my wife rides the subway and gets about 5 on average. It'd be cool to pick up more via Nintendo Zone. More Fire Emblem teams for fodder.

The only time I ever get street passes is when I go to gamestop and happen to have my 3DS with me. So, like, never.

You have to take it with you everywhere to really have a chance. It's not like in Japan where you have people clustered everywhere and most likely own one. I do best when I have my 3DS on me for my trips between DC and New York, since city areas have more people. Unfortunately most people in NYC seem to be stuck on playing Resident Evil Revelations and nothing else if my last couple trips are any indication. I'll get tagged for that, but not Mii Plaza.

Best place to get Streetpasses? Conventions. Especially gaming conventions. People know there will be lines and use them while waiting. Otherwise yes, your kinda shit out of luck outside of Asia.
