The EPIC WIN Thread 3: SON OF EPIC

I found a bug in my thesis work that has haunted me for 10 years now. I have long since rewritten the code, and I've sold it commercially, but there was always something that didn't quite work about it. Even when I rewrote it, there were subroutines I considered sacrosanct, and never verified. The bug was in one of them. Written by my advisor, not me. 10 years ago, I probably looked at the routine, but the bug didn't register. With greater experience, it's blindingly obvious. In any case I fixed it, and a 10 year long weight was lifted.

That's when you go to retrieve it.
Depending on how much she loves bacon, that's either "Hooooooney, dropped baconnnnn" or "Well, Punk, do you feel lucky?"

p.s. and of course after just posting that, I realized a better line would have been

Depending on how much she loves bacon, that's either "Well, Punk, do you feel like getting lucky?*eyelashes*" or "Well, Punk, do you feel lucky?"

I got my license today.

Q: but checkeredhat, aren't you in your mid twenties? Shouldn't you have gotten your license when you were like 18?
A:
Yeah. 26. I put it off for a long time. In Ontario, we have three levels to a driver's license. The two learning permit levels are called G1 and G2, the final full license is a G (Specifically, this is how it works for a General license- what 90% of people get. An M is a motorcycle, and there are other letters if you want to drive 18 wheelers, busses, RVs, etc)
You can get your G1 at 16, and it is good for 5 years. For a regular human being this is ample time to level it up to a full license. After one year (or 8 months if you complete an approved Drivers' Ed program), you can get your G2, then one year after that you can get your G.
I got my G1 at 16, then even though I took drivers' ed didn't go for my G2 until I was 17.
Now, a G is the equivalent of a learners permit as I understand it; you can drive as long as someone with a full license is in the front passenger seat. It also means you are not allowed to drive on freeways and have to keep a blood alcohol level of 0.00. A G2 is a step up, you still have to keep a blood alcohol level of 0.0 but you can drive on your own and can drive on the freeway, just not between certain hours. So having a G2 does not inconvenience you. And when you don't have time, money, or access to a car, getting experience on the highway is difficult. So I stuck with my G2. When I was 21 and my license was going to expire, rather than take my G test, I took my G2 again to just give myself 5 more years. This was basically my very last chance to get my full G before I'd have to start back at G1 all over again. Finally I feel a little more like an adult.

Some person I know got their learners then promptly moved to a province that did not have graduated licenses. Promptly got upgraded to full license, no questions asked, no retests or waiting period.

I wish I could double like this. CSB, bro AND a Madness video :)

So I have been forced to take a week off work (Sept 28 to Oct 6) and my intention is to hop on my motorbike and head south, see how far I can get in the US. Never been to Texas before but I'm thinking I'll head down the Oregon coast, hit California, drive through Vegas into Utah, pop down through New Mexico into Texas before heading up through OK, CO, WY and then home. At least that's the plan right now, just a bike and a backpack.

Remember to turn around by Midnight on the evening of the 1st, otherwise you won't be able to make it back in time.
Just a hunch, but you're probably going to want to turn back a day early, just so you can spend more time in Wyoming (specifically, Yellowstone).

MN is just a little too far east if I want to get as far south as I want to. Ive been through all of Yellowstone so it's not a huge goal of mine, the badlands through to SD are amazing though.

Aw, you'll go too far south of me. :(

I would've totally been down to meet up! Oh well, I hope you have fun!

Too bad. Riding Along 61 north from Duluth on the the shores of lake superior will most likely be beautiful at that time.

I don't have any set agendas or anything but having people to meet I would and absolutely will adjust routing to people who don't mind a Canadian rolling through their hood. Pretty flexible and accommodating.
