[Movies] Talk about the last movie you saw 2: Electric Threadaloo

This gives me hope.

No offense, but you tend to hate awesome things lately.
Rotten Tomatoes 11% may also indicate a bomb.[DOUBLEPOST=1388472800,1388472617][/DOUBLEPOST]Pitch Black with my wife. A good movie that I enjoyed. My wife didn't agree. She enjoyed the last part of the movie once the lights go out, but wasn't impressed by anything before that. Just felt the color filters and fish eye lens shots were rather cheap methods of making the movie "sci-fi". Sadly I couldn't argue with her on that count.
I bought the Riddick 3 pack. I'll watch all the films with my wife. I've seen Chronicles, though I don't suspect I'll change my negative opinion about it with the second viewing. I have yet to see the third film.

And you tend to have dreadful (or at least hyperbolic) taste, so it may be up your alley. You'll probably find it amazing.

If what you look for in a movie is pacing so glacial it makes Valhalla Rising seem rushed with a 9th grader's understanding of Japanese culture (almost to a racist level) and acting so God awful that Uwe Boll was jealous watching it then 47 Ronin might be for you.

It also has build up for an entirely exciting looking fight, only to just not have it and all but spit in your face for feeling the least bit hopeful that something exciting might happen.[DOUBLEPOST=1388477193,1388477134][/DOUBLEPOST]

Audiences are staying away in droves too, which is deserved, since it's really, really bad.

Now, the sets, costumes, special effects and the minuscule amount of action, pretty damn good. No wonder it cost nearly 200 million. The script, the acting, the pacing and a lot choices where to use those special effects (the fucking ogre guy? Was it necessary?), God awful.

Also, the bloodless E for Everyone violence helped nothing.

The movie was, in a word, tedious to watch.

Origins is at least so shitty it's hard to understand how any person could have thought any of it was a good idea. The Wolverine is so completely unnoteworthy to the point where it sits in an almost worse place. Sub-par almost mediocrity.

I wonder how Madame Hydra (completely wasted in The Wolverine) ended up being in the X-Men rights package.

I'm bummed out that Inside Llewyn Davis is only playing at one theater here and it's the God damn City Center theater. Paying for parking there is murder. The Coens haven't made a bad film and you mix that with John Goodman and I'm there.

I was choked. We got 47 Ronin and Grudge Match for Christmas releases and the other theaters got Wolf of Wall street, American Hustle and Inside Llewyn Davis. Weak.

There was also January Jones' absolutely horrible performance as Emma Frost.
Oh yeah, wow, she was terrible. I think my favorite part was the absolutely terrible end "battle" between stupid squirrel suit guy and dumb ethnic girl who spits explosive shit. There was something interesting happening with Fassbender and they keep cutting to this terrible low-budget made for TV superhero bullshit movie. Ugh. Get a better budget. I want to like the X-Men movies and there is so much potential but it's like they can't figure it out.

Thats the weird thing, I liked a LOT of First Class. I think I liked every part of it that avoided superhero stuff the most, which is a problem. Mainly because everything with the kids was either stupid or had super shitty vfx.

I liked the first 2 x-men flicks as well, I don't think they have aged well though and the costumes and VFX look really, really bad the further from 2000 we get. Thats kind of the problem with 1998-2003 or so though, it was a huge boom in the VFX industry and shit went from terrible to amazing over the course of a few years. Which is probably why I expected the VFX for the powers in First Class to look better. Again though, the movie was worth watching for Fassbender alone.

To be fair to them though, I think the X-Men are probably one of the harder comic-book concepts to pull off and not look stupid.

Here's a query: Did people like the Magneto Costume Fassbender was wearing at the end of First Class?

I did but I fully admit to fan boy squeeing over the fact that it was closer to the comic helmet.[DOUBLEPOST=1388505300,1388504808][/DOUBLEPOST]as for the Wolverine movies, I don't think he works well as a solo character even in the comics.

Really? Not even the Chris Claremont run?

With Charlie not posting much these days, how else is he supposed to jack off?
We all know Charlie's going to post more and more frequently, cause some outburst and piss someonelse off, get banned out of a thread, have a drunken goodbye thread and repeat the whole process all over again. I have to make sure to keep my orgasms at a steady pace so I don't blow out before then. At least with Frank now taking up some of the slack I can take it a bit easier.

It was okay I guess, just seems to show that it's hard to get a superhero uniform to look moderately cool outside of a drawing if it's not a robot suit.

Still though, I think the Sebastian Shaw kill is one of the most brutal superhero/villain kills I've ever seen, when I think about it. That coin had juices and shit on it.

It looked ill fitting and ridiculous. Didn't even look like they tailored it for him.
Yeah, it looked like they looked around and went, "uh, anyone got a purplish blazer? Giant Bob does? Sweet. Wrap a bath towel around his neck! Perfect!"

Now I found a pic from the next movie and this looks about a bazillion times better:

That kill scene was the entire justification for this movie to even exist. Seriously, it was that good.

Tonight I watched three things. First was Mike Birbiglia's My Girlfriend's Boyfriend, which was a fantastic comedy show which was touching, warm, and hilarious. Anyone who has listened to This American Life has heard Mike on the show and knows what they are getting into with his comedy. Well worth the watching.

The second is The Guilt Trip with Barbara Streisand and Seth Rogan. What a lovely little movie! I was very surprised with how sweet it was. Seth Rogan and Babs have great chemistry and made a great pair for a road trip movie.

I also saw Frozen today. Everyone else has pretty much said everything worth saying about this movie. Just fantastic music and a great twist at the end. Loved it even though I was in the corner neck ache seats and the theater was filled with children.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I love seeing a movie in a theatre packed with kids. Their energy and enjoyment of the movie is infectious.
That definitely depends on the movie. Saw Avengers in a packed theater with a lot of kids, and that was pretty rad.

Oh definitely. Best example of a theatre packed with kids improving my enjoyment? Over the Hedge. Barely memorable animated flick which isn't really fantastic by any means. Fun, but wouldn't even grace any Best Animated lists. But the kids were all laughing so hard that it was impossible not to get caught along for the ride.

I still want to see that. It looks funny.

I think I've said this before, but honestly, the more I think about the movie, the less I like it. I don't even feel compelled to buy it. Even had the chance on Boxing Day to buy it for like $10 and even still, my mind basically said, "Nah, not worth it."
