2014 Upcoming Games

2013 was a rough year ... on my wallet. Way too many good games. 2014 needs to scale back a bit. But stuff I'm looking forward to:

Devil Survivor 2: Break Record (aka 3DS version)

(This is a trailer for the DS version, but whatever.)

Devil Survivor Overclocked is probably my favorite 3DS game, mixing Shin Megami Tensei demon gameplay with tactical RPG and traditional RPG mechanics. I'm looking forward to a fully dubbed sequel ... hopefully it will come out in the U.S. next year, not just Japan.

AeternoBlade

Side-scrolling hack and slash with RPG and Prince of Persia-style time-fucking elements. The demo was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to the full release in January.

Super Smash Bros 4

Not gonna bother explaining--I love SSB series and my only internal debate is whether to buy this for the 3DS or the Wii U.

Shadow of Mordor

I know the video isn't gameplay, but it sort of gives an idea of what the game has going for it ... not really. But everything I've read about how you can take on the orc armies and shape the structure of the war sounds amazing. I'm glad it's coming out for PS3 gen and not just next-gen.

Persona 5

I'm excited about this, but I probably won't be playing it when it comes out because I still haven't played Persona 4 (same reason I won't be able to play Persona Q).

So, those are some of mine. What are you guys looking forward to?

In no order :

1. Watch Dogs
2. Dying Light
3. The Division
4. Pillars of Eternity
5. Stonehearth
6. Wasteland 2
7. Theif
8. Mad Max
9. South Park
10. Dragon Age?!?

Octodad

Not gonna lie. I'm kinda excited for this. There's a demo on our showcase PS4 in my store. Every customer, it seems, goes immediately for the FIFA '14 demo. Every time, I tell them to at least try the Octodad demo. Hilarity always ensues. So might not be the greatest game of all time, but I think it looks like fun.

The hell? Is this something like QWOP?

Yoshi's New Island- I know the orginal was a divisive game, mainly because they called it Super Mario World 2, but I loved the hell out of it.

Yoshi's Island was an amazing game. I remember picking up the Yoshi's Island DS rerelease on the DS, and being disappointed that they had changed the gameplay to try to 'improve' it.

Have they announced whether P5 is a standalone story, shared universe, or sequel?

Q is definitely a sequel/spin-off of of 3 and 4, but it seems like the details of 5 are not out there yet.

They haven't announced anything about the story, but seeing how all the Persona games have a shared universe, I assume P5 will be the same.

That said, the second clip of the chairs in the teaser shows protagonists from the other games seated, so it may be a bit more sequel-y than its predecessors.

I enjoyed the original Yoshi's Island, but I just can't get excited for the new one. I don't know why. I don't even think I'm going to buy it.

One of my games on the looking forward to list has come out, AeternoBlade, but its quality has come across as suspect. Nintendo made the makers delay the game for over a month because it wasn't up to their eshop standards due to bugs. That's not something I want to plop $15 on right now.

But something I'm really looking forward to from Nintendo ...

Kirby Triple Deluxe

This could be the best Kirby game since the 90s. It's even got a little SSB-esque multi-player mini-game aside from all the awesome morphs and platforming.

Oh, and hopefully Bayonetta 2 will release this year.
