The EPIC WIN Thread 3: SON OF EPIC

Starting Tue afternoon, I drove almost 30hrs to Alabama and back with a trailer to move a friend and about half a ton of cargo up here. 1300 miles, through darkness, ice storms, and a tightly restricted budget after discovering the trailer wiring in my father-in-law's "new" 2004 Cherokee was installed utterly incorrectly. Then, for funsies (and because we had the trailer for an extra couple of days), we went and moved a bunch of my stuff from my old house over here (another 300+ miles) through a second major snow/ice storm (7in accumulation), avoiding yet more automobile accidents/cars in ditches and even a jacknifed semi that turned a normally 2:20 trip into a 4:00 ordeal, and still managed to return the trailer only 7 minutes after the scheduled drop-off time.

They let it slide. :D

In early December, my company was facing financial woes and sold to a competitor. I was let go with majority of the workforce. The new owner only kept the bare minimum salary roster. Over time, he realized form client dealings, project situations and basically being told he was a twit for letting me go, he called me yesterday to ask me to come in to meet him.

I did this morning.

Basically we spoke for 2 hours and he offered "carte blanche" to me to get me to come back. I told him my conditions and he'll have everything in written and provide me a first offer over the weekend. He apologized profusely for what he did.

I didn't mind.

I spend 2 months with wife and daughter and this time right now is special to me. I took it easy and have been using my spare time to play games, read books, going out with the family, fondling my wife and so forth.

I'm intrigued to see what is to come in the days to come.

I've been informed by my publisher that later this month, a short story anthology called RAT-A-TAT: SHORT BLASTS OF PULP FICTION will be released.

Why's this a big deal, you ask?

Because not one, not two, but THREE of my stories are included in this anthology. Once it's out and I have a link, I'll be sure to send it along.

I started my new job today. No more pay, but it's a much more visible job with more responsibility. Why is this a win, then? Because had I not made the move I very probably would have been out of a job in a couple of months and this position gives me room to move up in the company. So win!

I have a new job!!! It starts July 1st, and requires a move across the country (that will be paid for by the employer).

@LittleSin - I'm coming to your province!

Gavin Patrick Stephenson joined the party today at 0034 hours, after a SPRINT of a labor of only 4 hours or so. 8 pounds even, 21 inches even. Both he and Momma are doing great!

Pictures to follow...

Can I recruit him now as a leiutenant in my Army of Darkness?

Congratulations to the both of you! How is big sister doing through all this?

It's not a real big place. You can have a meet-up!
From the looks of it, we'll be about a 9-10 hour drive away from each other.

Or even swing by Fredericton on your way here!
(Assuming you're driving through New Brunswick.)
We will be driving through NB for the move, not sure of the exact route yet.

I may have to make a thread for the Great Canadian Road Trip once we know when we're hauling out East. Or just commandere the Canadian thread for a while.

Where are you departing from? Ya'll can always crash at my place if road trippin' places you in Edmonton.

We're comming from the Okanagan, but we've got family in Calgary, so have to go through there. I don't think they'd be pleased if we passed through the province without seeing them!

I am a former westbank resident. Now I'm in Abbotsford. Kind of weird how many of us there are from such a small place.

We usually have steak a couple of times a month. My son usually has his well done with A1 steak sauce, while the rest of us have ours medium rare. Last week, we talked him into trying it medium rare. This week, he decided he didn't need the steak sauce, either. Win!

Soooooooo jealous! Kona is my favorite coffee. We had to bring back bags of it when our trip ended. You can get some around here, but it's usually a blend or mad-expensive.

It's not cheap here either. It always surprises me that local products here are sometimes more expensive than the ones imported from the mainland. I guess it's the tourist factor.

The sale of my condo closed today. My bank account hasn't seen that many zeros in some time. Possibly ever.
I am no longer a landlord, and I no longer have to deal with property in a different province.

It's more of a relief than anything else, I'm glad to have that period of my life behind me.

Hale-fucking-lujah.
:drunk:

I start a new job next week. It pays nearly double my current job and it's in data analysis, so it will be much better for my Resume. It's perfect because it's a contract consultant position that will end right about when I'm hearing back about grad school applications, so if I get into grad school, I can just be like "Sorry, contract is up and I'm going to school". Plus, while I'm working there, I can start squirrelling away more money for when I do get into grad school.
