My Ideal Superman Game (Round 2)

http://nickpiers.wordpress.com/2014/02/10/my-ideal-superman-game-part-1-theme-story/

Decided to do a multi-part series since I want to go into better detail on my idea(s). The first part is theme and story. Decided to flesh out my original idea into a story, at least a basic one. It could be fleshed out quite a bit more, but I think it gets around some the problems people have, like why Superman sticks to one city or cutting him off from the sun.

Next I'll do Side Missions, followed by Gameplay, I think. One idea I had was taking a cue from what a lot of people liked about Superman Returns and the "city health," but instead, you get health (and other bonuses) by rescuing people. That way, you can still fly around the city at your leisure, if you'd like.

I dig it. Even if you couldn't hypothetically get the rights to superman, it would make a pretty good tribute with a superman-like hero still.

Obvious side mission choices:

- Races against the Flash for Charity: The local hospital system needs money, so the Flash and Superman are holding races to raise money for charity. The point isn't to WIN but to make it exciting to drive up the proceeds, so you just need to keep up.
- Helping Batman solve/prevent murders: Batman has the digs on some crimes in Metropolis, but Gotham is in the midst of a crime wave. So he's forwarding them to Superman, who must use his abilities to solve them.
- Random Acts of Heroism: wherein Supes does very Superman things, like rescuing/talking down jumpers, preventing trains from derailing, and stops robberies/muggings. Helping more people makes Metropolis safer, thus giving you more health.
- Tales of Jimmy Olsen (Super Dickery!): Jimmy's got himself into another jam and you need to get him out of trouble. Feel free to be a dick about it. Just tons of Silver Age wackiness.
- Daily Planet Investigations: As Clark Kent, sneak undercover to get the real dirt on LexCorp's many illegal operations.

That last one is KEY. If it's a Superman game, I want to be able to be Clark Kent and do Clark Kent things. No one else has really tried this yet... and i have similar complaints that you can't go undercover as Matches Malone or Bruce Wayne (much) in the Arkham series.

Ooh, I like that idea. Leave the sandbox for brief, bizarre one-offs here and there, of increasing insanity.

Leaves open some interesting DLC options too, if they want to make a mini-adventure of Jimmy Olsen as the Red Devil, Elastic Lad, a werewolf, etc.

Turtleboy
I've never read anything with Turtleboy in it, so I didn't know if he had any powers that would make for interesting game mechanics. Though, if you're going for multiple alter egos in the same storyline, then it doesn't matter if one is of only limited use.

I had COMPLETELY forgotten about "Matches" Malone.

Yes, the idea of an undercover Clark not blowing his cover while simultaneously not blowing his cover would make for some interesting gameplay.

Kudos for the mention of Bibbo Bibbowski, points off for no mention of Gangbuster, Emil Hamilton, Guardian, Project Cadmus, the Newsboy Legion, the various creatures in the Underworld (and that entire setting), the Toymaster (potential there for Riddler-like collectables)...

I kid, you've got some great ideas. :)

For combat maybe have the game occasionally force you into bullet time & you've then got a short time to disarm a specific villain / get between him & the civilian he's trying to shoot so the bullets bounce harmlessly off Supes instead?

That'd be cool. You could use it for an extra bonus for saving civilians (or even Lois!).
