Plot: [PLOT]In the future, America is a dystopian wasteland. The latest scourge is Ma-Ma, a prostitute-turned-drug pusher with a dangerous new drug and aims to take over the city. The only possibility of stopping her is an elite group of urban police called Judges, who combine the duties of judge, jury and executioner to deliver a brutal brand of swift justice. But even the top-ranking Judge, Dredd, discovers that taking down Ma-Ma isn’t as easy as it seems in this explosive adaptation of the hugely popular comic series.[/PLOT][/MOVIE][/CONTAINER]

I love it when you get a production team that actually wants to recreate what made the source material worthy of a movie in the first place.

Good lord this film was just badass all over.

I don't buy many movies, but this is one I'm grabbing on Blu-Ray very very soon.

It's funny you say this when it has a pretty formidable female heroine AND the most violent, brutal person in the movie is also a woman calling herself "Mama". There's some decent subtext to this movie imo
I'd ask what your problem is, but we all know already.

Mama was pretty badass as a villain, and downright sadistic and scary.

Also, I love Karl Urban forever, for being a huge Judge Dredd fan and insisting that he never take off his helmet during the movie.

Apparently it was something Rebellion insisted on. It was also the first thing Karl Urban asked when he went to audition.

Been avoiding this one not because I don't like Karl Urban (I'm actually kinda happy to see him getting so much success), but because I haven't seen any of the source material, so I dunno whether or not I'd "get" it without reading the comics.

You will. The movie introduces the world and characters as needed, there's nothing required of the viewer going in. It's actually what got me into 2000AD and Judge Dredd.

Let us know what you think!

I loved it and my only exposure to it was Stallone and Rob Schneider

Watched this last night. I had been avoiding it because the Stallone film was such an atrocity. This being said, I admit I know nothing of the source material so I can't even say the Stallone film was true or untrue to it, just that I felt it was a terrible movie.

This one however was not terrible. I don't feel it is an epic that I need to sing the highest praises for, but I enjoyed it much more than I actually thought I would.
