[Movies] The DC Cinematic Universe - The David Zazlav Dumpster Fire.

I'm trying to think of a comic-based movie that strayed further from the source than The Mask.

I'm coming up blank.
Eh, I don't know. They had some of the characters from the comic. The cop following Ipkiss (Sgt. Callahan) was in the comic and even wore the mask himself for a story arc. They also lifted a few things, like the attack on the car repair guys.

Mystery Men strayed pretty far from its original source. As far as I know, they never had a comic of their own and only made appearances in The Flaming Carrot. Also, Mystery Men rocked and I don't care who says otherwise.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen strayed quite a bit, though it did carry over some of the core members of the team.

And let's be honest. If ANYTHING strayed the most from the original source, it was Catwoman.

Actually, I'm gonna agree with @Covar on this one. Men in Black went from a story about facists controlling information from the public by any means possible (There's one scene where K uses his neuralizer to turn a kid into a rooftop sniper at 19, just to keep the truth hidden) to a family friendly government organization. The MiB weren't ever supposed to be heroes, kind of like The Mask.

I remember being surprised at how hardcore MiB: Far Cry was, in the single issue that came out. I had just seen the movie, and assumed that the comic would be more of the same. I liked it, though.

So... I wonder if the new movie just pretends the Nolan ones never happened, or if they really are going to try to haphazardly world build.

It looks like the Dark Knight Returns comparisons aren't just applying to the themes and story. It looks like they've modeled the look of Batman for this film from that story.

Are there veins on his suit?[DOUBLEPOST=1400011026,1400010959][/DOUBLEPOST]Maybe not, but it looked like it. It's too damn dark.

Looks like he won't be able to turn his head again.

Then again, maybe that's his foolproof plan to slow down Neck-Snapping Murder Man.

It's a dude in a batman costume. There's not much to infer, people could calm down about this a little.
I dunno, personally I find the outrage over this shit to be hilarious. Every time anyone makes a movie about Batman everyone has a hissy fit. I mean, remember the first pictures of Nolan's Batman or the Tumbler? Ledgers casting? At this point it's a time honored tradition called, "The over-reacting of the internet" and we celebrate with cake when it happens.

Also: I believe on twitter Snyder said the shot is from a B&W camera so we can't infer any colors/shades of grey yet but I don't really care, it looks like a cross between Frank Millers Batman and Nolan's, which is a cool idea. I'll wait to see it in motion before I give it my patented "Nerd Boner of Approval".

Well lets up the outrage then because pouty disapproval doesn't get us our cake and I want some goddamn cake.

I'm not seeing any outrage in this thread--only outrageous laughter.

On that note, Adam West called and wants his cowl back.
I dunno, I don't think it looks bad. I'd have to see how it looks in the movie before passing judgment. It looks like The Dark Knight Rises costume.

I'm not a fan of the vein-y thing it's got going on, but this Bat suit looks like Frank Miller's jumped off the page. If this is supposed to be an older, grizzled (non-Nolaned) Batman, it's not a bad angle to take.

And then I remember Snyder's at the helm...

Which is why I'm not giving this a shred of courtesy. I have no intention of seeing it; just of making fun of it. WB's desperation couldn't be more transparent and I'm happy to mock them. I hope the people who do see this get what they want out of it.

I'd be happy to ignore it and catch it on cable like I did for Man of Steel, but then they said "Wonder Woman" and I had all these confusing feelings...

Higher Resolution (3,127px × 2,080px) photo:

The "veiny" look seems to be a combination of mesh material, scratches and battle-wear and tear, and the seams of the suit.

As for colour, while Zack Snyder may say we can't infer colour from the B& W photo, Kevin Smith already spilled the beans months ago that Snyder showed him concept art and it was very Dark Knight Returns.

Oh good, I think we can cut the cake now. :p

Edit: thanks for the high res pic checkered. Love the detail there. Still feeling a Miller/Nolan mashup.
