Will raising the minimum wage actually help?

Thing is, there are other factors which would determine whether a minimum wage would even be needed in Switzerland. Are social expectations of businesses and the wages/benefits they offer different in Switzerland than in the US? Do businesses there already offer a reasonable wage considering their economy/cost of living?

It was equivalent to about $17.50/hour US, but the Swiss don't have a minimum wage at all.
It was equivalent to $25/hr US (I already converted it). It's the equivalent of €17.50, not $17.50. It's a pity it didn't pass, really. I'd love to have seen what would've happened.

There's an old Russian political cartoon I tried to find but couldn't. It had two guys building a brick wall, and one guy was pointing at the other guy's shoddy, leaning section and yelling, "Uneven!" Then, in the next panel, it had the shoddy guy showing the first guy his paycheck and yelling back, "Even!"
