Very interesting map showing the biggest company, by revenue, in each state. There are a lot of issues with this type of map, but it's still eye opening in many ways:

Are you surprised by who leads revenue in your state? Pleased, or displeased? Do you know people who work for your state's company?

Johnson & Johnson? That's common knowledge. Usually when we make "Welcome to NJ!" baskets for out-of-state visitors (weddings and what-not), we usually include some J&J products for that reason. I'm cool with it.

Besides, we're known as "the armpit of the US". Someone's got to make our deodorant. ;)

Loves for Okla?? I figure it would've been Devon Energy. Especially since there are a lot less Loves than there used to be.

And, BoA for NC? BoA can *%!$ off. Also, Blue Cross is out here too, and they're pretty big.

That does surprise me, but this is by revenue from the last year. The Coca Cola Company still has more than twice the total assets that the Home Depot does. While HD has more revenue, Coke has more net income.[DOUBLEPOST=1404938468,1404938435][/DOUBLEPOST]

It'd probably be a big map that says "Walmart" if it was like that Chad.

And I'm kinda surprised its Verizon, though I guess most of the big NYC banks are technically headquartered in Delaware.

Also...West Virginia University? Thats why we make fun of you West Virginia.

It's not West Virginia University. It's West Virginia University Hospitals. They've got branches all over.

And really, who the hell else is there? Coal companies are all going bankrupt or are owned out of state. Same for the chemical companies.

Only three states under $2 billion. And only Montana below WV. Sigh.

Really, the only choices left are armed intervention to force the mining and chemical interests out at bayonet point, or just buy everyone out and turn the state into one big open pit. :cry:

To get some duplicates, it would then be interesting to see biggest employers (that WOULD allow duplicates between states obviously, as I mean only in that state, not headquarters-based). I doubt it's even close to the same.

EDIT: Oh, and I know who one of the largest employers in Wisconsin would be! I work for them!

Already been done.


EDIT: Heh- USAF is largest employer, Berkshire-Hathaway is the biggest company in Nebraska.

I'd be okay with NC on that second list except they specifically list UNC at Chapel Hill. If it was just the University of North Carolina system and their 17 campuses I would buy that.

and according to the article that went along with it they have 30,000 employees, which is bigger than their enrollment.
