Legend of Korra

Hopefully it's a step up from last season.
What Season 2 did right was tell a coherent story. What it did wrong was spend half the season on shit NO ONE CARED ABOUT. Like... if it had been a bunch of mini-episodes like Tales from Ba Sing Sa then it would have worked, but it just dragged on and on...

Glad we finally got something at least.

HOLY SHIT. EVERYONE CAN BEND EVERYTHING. It's the reverse of the Bender Vs Equality argument: now that everyone can bend anything, how do you keep order? Every slight is a potential warzone now.

I'm not sure what to freak out about most, Combustion Woman, Old man Zuko, NEW BENDERS, or those dudes in jail! What is up with those dudes in jail?!

Turns out episodes 3-6 got accidentally leaked by a Mexican affiliate channel recently. Nick needs to stop sitting on the episodes and start showing them (which hopefully they are about to if they're releasing an official trailer now).

This is (rather minor) spoilers from the general overview of the leaked episodes I read:
Regarding all the new benders around, it's not so much that everyone can bend everything, but that bridging the two worlds has awoken new benders, especially/specifically new airbenders.

Okay, so I'm a little confused. How is it that suddenly
everyone's bending?
At the end of the last season, that wasn't a repercussion even mentioned from keeping the spirit world portals open.

Well, the portals have been closed for 10,000 years, it's not surprising they don't know exactly what all it'll do leaving them open.
Sure, I get that. But going by their own established mythos, the only way to become a bender was via a lion turtle's magical touch. Even 10,000 years ago, in Wan's age, the spirit world was open and that didn't spontaneously cause benders to sprout powers.

The lion turtle energybending was a way to get bending, but it's clearly not the only way because people have become benders over the years after splitting the worlds.

I don't know if greater details were given in the leaked episodes, and I don't want to spoil myself and look any deeper, so it's hard to judge until we see what the answer is. Maybe it's more energy bending, maybe it's something else. The spirits and humans didn't get along well in Wan's time, so anything else that may be responsible wouldn't have been explored at the time.

I was under the impression that the bending abilities were passed down from generation to generation. The reason that people were able to use it after the lion turtles was that they chose to not have it taken away like Wan originally chose.

No... people just had to learn how to do it the hard way. Hence why the "first" benders (the ones after the worlds were divided) were generally antisocial folks who hung around with dragons, badger moles, Air Bison, and the moon: they were the only ones with the time and need to learn how to do this stuff.

Game available in the fall for download? No gameplay footage shown mere months before it's release?

It's going to be disposable trash.

REV3 apparently had a hands-on with the game. Said it's a 3-5 hour downloadable title, but that it's VERY MUCH a Platinum Games title and plays like God of War/Bayonetta. Also had a few screenshots in the mist of the video.

Sounds like it might be fun at least.

Damn, a 3 episode premiere? They really want this season to go quickly!

Loved the premiere, things I like include:
1. Asami and Korra kicking ass.
2. Bolin and Mako meeting their family- FEELS!
3. Evil Earth Queen and how she is a DISGRACE to the name of her bear loving dad!
4. The league of evil benders, including Combustion woman, Evil Airbender Roku, Lava shuriken guy, and the greatest amputee- EVER!
5. FireLord Zuko and Desna bonding about how they both failed to kill the Avatar.
6. Tenzin's AWFUL airbending pitch, it was hilarious.
Things I didn't like:
1.Kai. He better redeem himself soon, I'm getting some LightScream vibes from him.
And...no its pretty much Kai. I just don't like him. And I could see Jinora getting a crush on him a MILE away.
Edit: NO WAIT- the fact that the White Lotuses keep getting their asses owned. They are basically red-shirts now.

I LOVE how the Earth Kingdom has basically gone from Dynastic China (it has issues but is at least TRYING to do the right thing) to North Korea (Actively malevolent to it's own people) in less than 100 years. Not only does it have bandits preying on the government on the outskirts of it's control, everyone has a painting of the Earth Queen in their homes like North Korea does of the three Kims. Plus the Di Lee are back to there old shit.

It takes a real monster to go "Hey... air benders are back. Instead of helping their almost destroyed culture, I'm going to turn them into a battalion to fight the Fire Nation and United Republic!".

Well they are setting those guys up as being able to take on an avatar that just took on pure evil... so that's understandable.
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM-true. Still, I do hope to see a cool White Lotus again.

Straight up, I also like how she's the first child of an ATLA character to be evil.

My totally unsubstantiated prediction:

The Fire Nation criminal that Zuko has locked up at the North Pole is Azula's daughter. She simply reminds me too much of Azula.

Maybe, I think she's the granddaughter of Combustion man, and FULL of revenge for the Avatar. Or she's Azula's daugther who was trained by Combustion man's peeps, either works for me.

Okay the two latest episodes are probably two of my favorites. Why? One word: FILLER! Glorious glorious filler! Gives ya damn chance to breathe. ALSO-
super glad the reason Lin was angry at her sister wasn't because she was evil but instead because of complex emotional issues that they had to deal with. Was really afraid she'd be girl Unalaq, now I feel silly for worrying.

Of the things this season, I kind of dig the way the show nonchalantly treats the fact that Toph had two daughters with different fathers that they never knew for whatever reason. That's some weirdly mature subject matter to just toss on a show and something that usually gets avoided by most younger programming like a plague rat. But honestly, thus far, this season SHITS on the last one.

Ok, finally got to start watching Season 3. Egads, TONS better just by the first episode. And HENRY FUCKING ROLLINS. Big ole thumbs up for me.

Yeah, this season had succeeded mostly by reducing each story into a one-hour block that stands on it's own instead of telling a huge, grand story each week. This doesn't mean that each story isn't connected but it's not so heavy handed this time around.

This season DOES have one weakness so far though: we still have NO idea why these four people want to kill Korra and we're 7 episodes in.

Maybe the reason to kill Korra is the Avatar cycle. The next one will be a born earth bender and the queen of the earth kingdom wants the control over one as the ultimate weapon.

I assume they'll ally with the Earth Queen because of this, but I don't think this is their personal reason. Though they did say they wanted to kill the president, so there's a good chance they are against the United Colonies in general. We'll see I guess.

Also I can not wait for the Queen to down, FOR BOSCO! Seriously I gasped after hearing that.

Have they said outright that they want to kill her? I can't remember their dialogue specifically, outside of what they've said to each other or people they're fighting. I don't know if they've said what their plans are, other than it involving Korra somehow.

I'm actually not sure if they want to simply kill her. The air bender dude seems to have a respect for history - certainly for air benders - so I'm not sure if they want to kill her.

Hmm...I don't watch this, but there's reports Nick is pulling the last five episodes due to lower ratings, and the episodes on iTunes have apparently been taken down, too.

If they would make the damn show easy to watch on the site it wouldn't have ratings problems. Fuck Nick for being stupid about their content.

Well... what did they expect? The show is on in the Friday Night Death Slot and at least half of Avatar's viewers sckewed in the 18+ range. If anything they should have been putting this on during Saturday mornings, with a repeat on Sunday night.

IT'S NOT ME! I DIDN'T DO IT! Why does everyone hate me for Korra?!

From what I've read their still airing Terror within, but I think they are going to release the rest of this season "Gravity Falls" style to prolong. And yes, getting rid of the nick dot com downloads was a terrible terrible idea to get ratings.

When is the finale?
That's the thing, we don't know anymore. It would have been over in August but now it looks like they aren't going to be showing any more episodes after this week. With 5 left, it's ether going to be a special event or they are going to do what they did with Book 2 and put it online to just be done with it.
