Hey there, dudes and dudettes! What with all the talk of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I've started a thread for us to have our discussions here. Whether it's the recent movie, the Nickelodeon series, or whatever version of the Turtles, here's a thread for us all to have our half-shell chatter.
So, has any one been watching the Nickelodeon series of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? This has been a great take on the Turtles and is, for me, my favorite iteration thus far.

I'm up to date with the current show and I love it. It actually mixes a bit of the original comics and the original cartoon while still also adding in some really cool stuff to the mythos. I wasn't sold on Teenage April when it was announced, but it works really well within the context of the show. Plus, making her and Casey teenagers in High School adds another interesting layer.
I'm not crazy on some of the mutant designs. I think some - not all - are over-designed. Very few, if any, share that same great simplistic design that the Turtles have, which is a shame. It's a shame they couldn't carry over some of the simplistic - albeit silly - designs from the 80s cartoon. I actually preferred Dog Pound and Fish Face as normal, but well-trained humans who were capable of taking on the Turtles.
Still, I'm really enjoying it and think it's arguably the best animated Turtles series to date.[DOUBLEPOST=1407787642,1407787534][/DOUBLEPOST]In other news, I wish this new movie would die in a fire.

The 70s action movie versions of Power Man and Iron Fist/Chuck Norris? I liked those designs a lot too, wish they could have stuck around a little longer. I really question the new Razar design. Looks to thin to make a good toy. As far as the other villains, I think they do a good job, I actually wish they made more toys of the other mutants.
The show does a really good job with blending sources, including references to past material (first shredder fight) and handling that "anything goes" feeling that makes the franchise sound. Some really crazy stuff manages to slip past the censors too. Like the episode Invasion of the Squirrelanoids where Raphael and Michelangelo spend a good portion of the episode stoned.
Umm..., did Canada got a different version of the movie? Fraser and Becky from Videogames Awesome love the movie and thinks its the best adaptation. I haven't watched the movie myself, so I can't say if I agree or not. You can watch their review here: http://videogamesawesome.com/2014/08/09/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-2014-reaction/

Yeah, I checked out their review. I have no idea why they liked it as much as they did, judging by most reviews. I haven't seen the film either, but it just seems odd considering how negative reviews have been.
Here's a review from the negative side of the aisle from the Super Best Friends Play team (warning, spoilers):
They did do a stream sponsored by Paramount where they played a bunch of the old TMNT games, but the cash couldn't have been that good. Of course, the cash and getting paid to play TMNT games is probably what may have colored the experience for them.
The current show premiered on my birthday, I took that as a sign that I was going to love it.
The Kraang are a perfect hybrid of the Utroms and Krang, and how Roseanne Barr never got work as voice acting alien super villains before this is a question that plagues me.
I, like many thought April as a teen was weird at first, but than I realized how weird it was that a fully grown woman is hanging out with a bunch of pizza munching teens and their rat dad. Out loud that actually sounds weirder, and considering this is a story about mutant turtle crime fighters thats saying something.
I'd like to think the creators realized how silly Dogpound looked, and that's why they
gave him enough rare candie-I MEAN a second mutation into Rahzar who just looks freaking cool. I'm on the fence on Fishface becoming Tokka though, I'm one of the minority who thinks he looks cool.
There are a BUNCH of great Easter eggs to the '87 show as well as scifi horror movies like "The Fly" and "Aliens"(Squirrelenoids are AWESOME)! Also the loving digs at the original series, such as mocking Ace Duck, and Raph saying "About as useful as a turtle in a Trench coat", to more subtle ones as Mikey wondering what he would look like as human after being retromutagenized(which they also make fun of in the new show).
And the plot perfectly harmonizes the campy nature of the 87 cartoon, and the dark nature of the Mirage comics and 03 cartoons full of plenty of fun and really really REALLY dark ones.
My only criticism isn't so much of the show but mostly of its BULL SHIT RELEASE SCHEDULE!
I want to say I'm surpised about the movie but...yeah.

Not watching, but if they give their reasons why, that should answer the question. If they just went uppity and say they liked it, then yeah, could be pay-off.[DOUBLEPOST=1407807561,1407807525][/DOUBLEPOST]

I think the TMNT have a really underrated / great rogue's gallery. I really love their stable of villains. Shredder is instantly crazy awesome and one of my favorite villains of all time. But there's also the super weird shit like Krang, THERE'S A GODDAMN TECHNODROME, and then the many villains that are like dark versions of themselves (Bebop, Rocksteady, Tonka, Razor).
Also the foot clan is the best semi-disposable group of villains this side of the putty patrol.
ALSO Turtles in Time is possibly the video game I've played through the most times in my entire life.
I have said it before and I will say it again, it is really weird how the foot clan is a parody of the hand...but are infinitely more recognizable media wise.

Dammit, now I kind of want to watch the new show. Not that I have Nickelodeon, but still.

Most likely it's a joke, but Casey killing Shredder does bring up how the original TMNT film pulled from the cartoon and the original comics, creating an interesting mixture. In the comics, they killed Shredder in the first issue. Now? The central archenemy of the Turtles throughout the franchise history.

Indeed. If my trivia knowledge is correct, when they were creating the '80s cartoon, the execs learned of Shredder and actually asked Eastman and Laird, "Why did you kill off your most personal villain in the first issue?".
