Awesome. I can't wait to not give a shit about these dark, brooding movies while simultaneously missing the heroes that I love dearly. But they haven't been around for years now, save for some really out of continuity stuff like Superman Adventures.[DOUBLEPOST=1413409771,1413409549][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, it seems silly not to tie in at least Arrow and Flash. There's two B-level superheroes (I say that with all due respect; Flash is one of my favourite heroes, but he is secondary to Superman and Batman) with their own shows set in their own respective cities. You could just have them pop up in the Justice League movie just fine and everyone would recognize them because they have their own shows - to say nothing of their already iconic looks.

Besides, Flash looks to have a long-term plan of involving something in the same vein as Crisis on Infinite Earths, judging by the teaser at the end of the pilot. The date teased is 2024. They could easily be ready for Crisis-sized movie by then and make it all work.

That's if I had any faith in Warner Bros. or DC Comics anymore.

If this ends up just being a re-titled Dark Knight Returns, then I may see it. That kind of story is right up "grim and gritty" alley. Also, Jena Malone is awesome and Carrie Kelley is awesome.

I still wish there would be a decent foundation for a Wonder Woman movie, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I always thought the casting of an older Batman implied they were heavily borrowing from TDKR, especially when they released the photos of the very Frank Miller-esque cowl.

But with the announcement that this is launching the DCU (at least enough to set up a Justice League movie), does this mean Justice League is going to be more like JLU's "The Once and Future Thing"? Or to be more specific, is Batfleck (hee, I love how that sounds) going to be the older Batman among much younger heroes?

I'm pretty Spider-Man and Wolverined out in the comics, so yeah, you're probably right. Maybe even not having the X-men at all is a good thing.

I've never thought about it that way before, but you bring up a really good point. Though I think the aesthetic/feel other the first Spider-Man movies would fit in better with the current MCU, I think it's better they weren't bound to them. In fact, I would even add The Fantastic Four to that list. Even though their movies weren't as successful, if you're building your film franchise around the Avengers, the FF, the X-Men and even the Spidey-verse are just too team -heavy to share screen time, or just too much screen time might be focused on Spidey or Wolverine to make it feel like the ensemble movie you'd want it to be. I think this is still an issue that plagues the X-Men movies, even though I do like Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.

I admit that I'm a bit tired of Batman now, and want a little more Batman in my Batman.
I could really go for a more Daredevil-y Batman than the current more Punisher-esque Batman he seems to be heading towards.

I'm kinda relieved he's stepping out. I think his contributions are worthwhile, but I think you can only keep going so much before it's time for someone else.

While I have some faith in what DC is going to do, it's still very little. Marvel set a bar perhaps too high, IMO, and just seems to keep pumping out really easy-to-get-into tales with their cast. I was so stoked to see Guardians and left the theater feeling like I could go on the rollercoaster a second time, lol. Not really the case of 'Man of Steel' - towards the end I could've easily just compared it's biggest battle to a DragonBall Z episode.

I have to say this is ironic, coming from someone who went nuts for a singer who recycles the same three chord progression that's been used since the dawn of rock, tired melodies we've all heard before, and banal lyrics about love.

She's pretty but I have no idea who she is. She does look like the character in Batman: The Animated Series, though. With a decent script and the right director I'm sure she could do well.

I honestly don't see why that matters. So it's set in 1980-ish instead of 2014? How does that work with Man of Steel being set in current times?

I saw about something interesting, recently. Someone had asked Dwayne Johnson on Twitter if the Shazam film is going to be part of the DC Movie Universe that Warner Bros. was creating. Dwayne apparently said that they'd be keeping the fun tone that Shazam deserves, along with #Independence at the end of his post. This may suggest that the DC Comics filmed that are made by New Line Pictures (such as Shazam, and presumably Sandman and Fables), will be their own thing and not part of the Justice League Universe.
