[Movies] Talk about the last movie you saw 2: Electric Threadaloo

Cajuns don't fly. They creep up on you like a gator and :chomp: your leg off and stuff you under a log.
That's preposterous. I've seen cajun cookbooks. There's no way they chomp your legs off. Your legs aren't even seasoned yet. They cut your legs off and use them in gumbo.

I think Interstellar is one of the best movies I've seen in recent memory. (Let me get there for you: "You have seen some bad films in recent memory.") No, I genuinely think it was excellent.

Big Hero 6

Well that was a whole load of fun. Definitely worth seeing in theatres. I just hope we get a sequel on this one. Heck, you could easily cross this over with Incredibles.

SO GOOD. SO....GOOD. Exciting, sweet, funny. I've been saying "hairy baby" over and over. And I had no idea Hornburger was Baymax! He was so adorable.

I cried like an irrational toddler at the end. Jake's sleeve was soaking wet. It was a beautiful story about how loss and anger leave you at a crossroads.

The Social Network

I'm late to this one. But I finally sat down and watched this one few nights ago. It's a great movie, made even better by the EXCELLENT performances. Much more than just the boring "Story of Facebook" premise sets you up to expect.

Big Hero 6

This felt a bit by the book, but it's executed well and I can't really complain anything aside from it's predictability. It's just a really well done super hero movie for kids.

Sabotage: Got to watch it tonight. I thought it started strong, but around the third hit it seemed to lose its way. Then later parts got weird, like they had the scenes they wanted, but didn't know how to execute them, so the movie just kind of over-explains shit here and there, and the last half hour doesn't seem to have any emotion at the points where it should be most emotional.

Not as good as I'd been hoping for.

Big Hero 6, fun little kids film with a bunch of great action scenes. ALSO- anyone else notice how much Fred's costume looked like Sky Deviler from Kaiju Big Battel?

Me too, just saw it for the second time. The soundtrack is beyond excellent too. It's genuinely incredible.

I will complain about this in Interstellar:
When they go to the planet that has severe time dilation, they know beforehand that every hour is approximately 7 years earth-time. When they reach the planet, discover that the scientist there who had been broadcasting may have only landed there minutes ago in the planet-time. Why couldn't they have predicted/calculated that her 'all great' signal was only a few minutes old, not years? I even thought this to myself when they were discussing the time issue before going to the planet, "Couldn't she have only been down there for a little while if she left ten years ago, spent two years travelling to Saturn, and then landed on the planet? I'm not saying they shouldn't have investigated her signal, but they should have been more aware of the possibility that her signal was only a few 'minutes' old, and should not have been so surprised.

Coop did yell at Brand about this.

My biggest complaint about the Hunger Games movies is that not being in Katniss's head really takes something away from the story. This continues in MockingJay, and if anyone sees part 2 without ever having read the books, I think they will be pretty confused by what happens at the end.

I can't wait to rage about MockingJay Part 2, because they are ether going to cut parts to make her more sympathetic (which changes her characterization completely) or they are going to leave them all in but without the internal motivations (which means the audience won't realize what a fucking monster she is).

I have never been more angry with a book than I was with MockingJay. I literally can't stand how Katniss is being marketed to girls because of it.

The same could be said of almost every movie ever made.
I'm gonna go with Charlie on this; I don't think that's the case. The more ambitious the project, the more likely things aren't going to make sense if you get into them too much. Not every Nolan project can be The Prestige. Inception has its plot holes and contradictions (although I suppose you can always throw the "that part was a dream" reasoning at anything to excuse it). I've heard said the same about Interstellar, though I haven't seen it yet and don't know what praises or problems people have with it.

Except the Zimmer score; I've heard people and seen articles saying it's the best thing ever. I used to be the first person to anti-Zimmer; his stuff on Gladiator and several other movies from that time period sounds like generic movie music. In the last ten years, he's expanded more and more, and that track from Interstellar was absolutely gorgeous. I used to buy movie scores all the time, but it's been a long while. I'm still debating whether or not to see the movie, but I'm going to buy the score either way.

Whoa-ho, this movie's 3 hours long? That sounds like a rental to me. If it was a movie I was really looking forward to, fine, but if I go a 9 AM show, I'm not getting home until 12:30. I think I'll stay home and watch Conan the Barbarian instead.

Do you really want to use the Prestige as your example of a Nolan movie that holds together after viewing?

I think it holds together/ probably is better than anything he's made after it. Granted I haven't seen Batman Begins in a really long time, but it might have come out before Prestige?

Yup.[DOUBLEPOST=1416762370,1416762269][/DOUBLEPOST]

It came out before Prestige.

If people want a lousy Nolan movie, they could just watch Insomnia, the one everyone forgets about.[DOUBLEPOST=1416762454][/DOUBLEPOST]
I'm pretty critical of Interstellar, but it's not a rental. Don't let three hours scare you, for all my gripes, I didn't check what time it was once.
I don't have a problem with a movie being long in general, I just looked at it as "there would go my whole Sunday morning." If I had gone, I still wouldn't be back yet.

I less mind a movie's length and more the 20+ minutes of trailers before every movie nowadays.

I don't know I think pulling out actual magic kind of breaks the entire movies premise, but that could be just me.

Honestly, I don't think there are very many movies that hold up to close scrutiny or criticism. Even though Cinema Sins is mostly nitpicking and cracking jokes, they do raise a good point: no movie is without sin. I don't think there's such thing as a universally perfect movie.
