[Movies] The DC Cinematic Universe - The David Zazlav Dumpster Fire.

I'll bet even money I'm one of probably 2 people in this thread who won't see this opening weekend.
How much money?

Considering how rare it is to get to see a movie in the theater lately, I guess I'm #2.
Guess with me that makes three.
I will not be seeing this in a theater just as I didn't see Man of Steel in a theater. I'll wait for cable/streaming.
That makes me chopped liver? Had no plans to see it in the theater, and considering I couldn't get through the opening sequence of Man of Steel before turning it off, probably won't see it at all.
I will probably watch this on DVD when it gets to Netflix. I wouldn't waste my time watching this in theaters.
I'll probably wait to pirate/netflix it myself. I still haven't seen Return of Superman.
And I'll add myself in there. Hell, half the time I don't get to the movies when it's something I want to see (Fury, Ant-Man, The Gift, that spy movie this August, to name a few); I'm certainly not going for something I don't want to see.

Not sure what kind of response you were expecting. "You're right, I can't wait to see this piece of shit." What's more likely is that a bunch of us will talk about it and critique as if we've seen it when we actually haven't.

EDIT:

Someone made a better trailer.
It's better in that it gives less away, but the maker titled it "fixed" and there's still a mess of problems. But what are you gonna do? That's probably reflective of the movie.

It warms my heart to see how many people on here won't be seeing this in theaters.
I grew up on the Big Blue Boy Scout. The one who was proud to say his mom made his uniform. The one who would bring flowers for your mother when he'd drop by.

This ain't him.

I would love to be one of the I-am-Spartacus group on this, but it would feel a bit cheap as I tend to rarely see movies in theaters, so it is sort of the default position.

Plus, if my lady wants to see it in theaters, I'm not particularly inclined to argue her out of it.

It's a sex thing

I'm not seeing it in theaters. Or probably anywhere else. I haven't seen Man of Steel, either. As a longtime DC fangirl, there is absolutely nothing about these films that interest me. That last trailer was terrible.

I'm so glad the CW's DC characters aren't being pulled into this grimdark crapfest.

Remember when everybody thought Val Kilmer and George Clooney couldn't pull off playing Batman?
And now everybody is saying the same thing about Ben Affleck too.
Well, they didn't pull it off. They sucked.
So will Ben Affleck.
Just wanted to make sure everybody remembered.

Odd tidbit: Max Landis, filmaker, comic writer and famed creator of The Death and Return of Superman, claimed on Twitter that when making American Ultra, Jesse Eisenberg did an impression of him that is basically exactly what he's doing as Lex. I would blow it off, but listening to the linked video again, maybe i can see that.

The new Luthor doesn't have to be the threatening, powerful, but charismatic figure of DCAU or the suave pre-version of that from Smallville, but it's hard to shake the impression that someone involved in the project thought that DC really needed to get back to the "goofy Luthor" era and thought that Jesse Eisenberg's take is the modernized version of that.

For me, Luthor is epitomized in this moment (spoilers for JLU):

So, I've been thinking about what we know about this movie so far, which I feel is too much from the trailers, but also how it could be fixed. I'll put the rest in spoilers, just in case anyone wants to keep themselves from being spoiled by what the trailers have already shown.

So, Lex Luthor somehow manipulates Batman and Superman into fighting, steals what looks like the colonization ship that was crashed on earth from the first movie, as well as Zod's body and all the remains of kryptonian technology. He then creates Doomsday, and sets him off to rampage, forcing supes, Batman and Wonder Woman (and Cyborg and Flash and Aquaman also, apparently, all rumored to be appearing in the movie, with only Aquaman confirmed) to have to stop him.

How do we fix this shitfest? Well, right off the bat, nix Doomsday. I don't care if they're planning to carry him over into Dawn of Justice Part 2 or whatever, just get rid of him, it's way too early for Doomsday. Marvel didn't blow their load and put Thanos in the avengers, it's been building up to that, and so too does Doomsday need to build.

Also, Luthor manipulating Batman and Superman into fighting just makes them both look dumb. Instead, Luthor, who is a brilliant mind that's now become obsessed with kryptonians now that he's seen their power, collects all of the remains of kryptonian technology and starts to experiment with it. In his experimentation, studying the genes of Zod (bred specifically to be a nonstop warrior) and the remains of the alien technology, manages to create kryptonite, specifically red kryptonite. The red kryptonite is how he plans to manipulate Superman, pitting him and Batman against each other just because he can, because he wants a kryptonian servant.

Maybe in his experimentation, he discovers it's also been affected him, but in a much more subtle manner. His hair starts falling out, he starts developing health problems, but his mind moves even faster, he gets even smarter... Luthor is (thematically) the opposite of Superman, using cunning and intelligence as opposed to super brawn (yeah, I know Superman is also super intelligent, shut up.) This helps to set him up for a bigger role in a future movie, might even lead to him building a robot suit, I really like robot suit Lex, I don't know why.

Alternatively, instead of red kryptonite, he could still go the 'create a kryptonian clone' route with Zod's genes, but also include Superman's DNA and create Bizarro, with the aforementioned kryptonite used to imprison the real Superman.

Ultimately, I think the villain of the movie should be an 'evil' uncontrolled Superman, because that's obviously the way they want to go, and it worked well in Injustice, but at the same time they need to keep Superman's moral integrity, or what little there is after Man of Steel, because he needs to be the hero in future movies.

These are just spitballed ideas, but they all sound way better to me than Batman and Superman being dumb and then Doomsday gets farted onto the screen.

I love how Wonder Woman saves Batman by destroying an entire neighborhood. Based on Man of Steel, I'm left to assume those buildings hadn't been evacuated.

I was thinking the same thing. "I hope no one lives in that section of Metropolis. Well, I guess they don't anymore..."

I don't know if it's just me, but every time I look at Cavill in his "Superman-stance" it always looks like he is super bored and uninterested. You have Wonder Woman ready to fight, Batman holding his (sigh) gun close, then you just have Cavill, looking like he is thinking about what he might be missing on Game of Thrones this week rather then standing up to a ridiculously strong monster.

He's Superman though. Very few things can match Superman's power, so Superman's default state when facing an enemy is "relaxed but ready to go at any moment".

Although in the comics, Doomsday was one of the few entities who managed to scare Superman.

Well okay, but aren't most of us comic fans fans of both?
More people who read DC books will read Marvel and other publishers, but there's a whole class of readers who will only read Marvel. Hence the term Marvel Zombie.
